Hyperlinks on the Elgin.edu Website
Administrative Procedure 7.103
I. Purpose
Elgin Community College generally does not include hyperlinks to commercial websites on its official site. Exceptions may be granted when a request meets established guidelines and receives approval from the President’s Cabinet. This procedure outlines the criteria and process for such exceptions.
II. Guidelines for Commercial Hyperlinks
- The external website must have a substantial, pre-existing business relationship with ECC (e.g., sponsorship), independent of the hyperlink request.
- The external site should not treat the elgin.edu link preferentially or differently from other referrals.
- Hyperlinks on elgin.edu may include the name, icon, or logo of the commercial entity.
- ECC website management will determine the hyperlink’s format, including type, size, and appearance.
- ECC reserves the right to remove any hyperlink at any time without notice.
III. Procedure
The hyperlink request should be submitted to the Web Team and include the following information:
- The ECC requester’s name and contact information
- The proposed location of the link on elgin.edu
- The destination URL and contact information for the external site’s webmaster
- A logo or graphic to be used as the hyperlink (if applicable)
- A description of the relationship between ECC and the external site
- A proposed removal date for the hyperlink
This information will be reviewed by the Web Team and forwarded to Cabinet by the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer for approval. If approved, the Web Team will establish the requested hyperlink.
IV. Ongoing Review
The Web Team, part of the Marketing Department, will review all approved commercial hyperlinks annually to ensure continued relevance. If the underlying relationship changes, it is the responsibility of the requester to notify the Web Team and request removal.
