Attendance, Punctuality, and Job Abandonment
Administrative Procedure 5.405
Elgin Community College expects its employees to be reliable and punctual. Employees are required to report for work on time and as scheduled. Employees who cannot report to work as scheduled, or who expect to be late, must notify their supervisor prior to their scheduled start time.
Unplanned absences can disrupt work, inconvenience other employees, and affect productivity. Employees who have a poor attendance record or who are frequently late may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Absent extenuating circumstances, which will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, employees who fail to report to work for three consecutive days without securing the approval of their supervisor will be considered to have abandoned and resigned from their job.
This Administrative Procedure will be administered consistent with applicable laws and the College’s collective bargaining obligations where applicable.
