Financial Aid Checklist

ECC Financial Aid Priority Dates

Summer Semester: April 1

Fall Semester: July 1

Spring Semester: November 1

Note: Applications are accepted after the priority dates, however, financial aid may not be processed by the payment due date of the term. To receive financial aid, and if otherwise eligible, your financial aid file must be complete, and all required and requested paperwork must be submitted on or before the Financial Aid File Completion Deadline which is May 19, 2027. No updates, changes, or processing of financial aid will take place after May 19, 2027, for the 2026-2027 award year.

Applying for Financial Aid

  • Apply for admission to ECC

    You must provide your Social Security number on the Admission Application for financial aid processing. Please make sure your address is accurate.

  • Complete a FAFSA

    (Free Application for Federal Student Aid.) Log on to www.studentaid.gov, click on the “create account” link and create an FSA ID, then complete and submit the FAFSA. If you need assistance, feel free to come into the Financial Aid Office or call 1-800-433-3243. You may need your federal IRS tax returns. Parent information is needed if you are a Dependent student.   • Complete and submit the ECC Institutional Aid Application and all required financial aid paperwork.

    After you submit your FAFSA, you will receive a letter from the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office indicating what paperwork is needed to complete the financial aid process. Students admitted to ECC can check for needed documents through the AccessECC self-service portal. Forms are also available online. Promptly submit all required documents to the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office. Your financial aid cannot be processed until all paperwork has been received.

  • Review your financial aid offer.

    Once your FAFSA has been processed, you will receive an email notification from the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office. If eligible for financial aid, you will be able to view your financial aid offer online at elgin.edu by logging into your AccessECC student portal. Your financial aid offer outlines financial aid that you may be eligible to receive based on your anticipated enrollment.

All New and Returning Loan Borrowers

  • Set up a student loan appointment.

    If you are interested in taking out a student loan, contact the Financial Aid Office to make an appointment to meet with a Financial Aid Advisor. Loan appointments are scheduled after your financial aid application has been completed and processed by ECC.

New Borrowers to ECC Only

  • Complete Loan Entrance Counseling.

    Log on to the Federal Student Aid site. Under the “Grants and Loans” dropdown menu, select Loan Entrance Counseling to complete the Entrance Counseling for Subsidized/ Unsubsidized Loans.

  • Complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN.)

    Log on to the Federal Student Aid site. Under the “Grants and Loans” dropdown menu, select Master Promissory Note (MPN) to complete the MPN for Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans.
