Business Development Center
Advising and support for community business owners.
Overview
After careful consideration, ECC has decided not to reapply for funding to operate the SBDC beyond the current grant cycle, which ends on December 31, 2025. This was a difficult decision, and we want to express our sincere gratitude for the trust and partnership our business partners placed in us, as well as all the successes they have shared with us.
Please know that continuity of service for local businesses remains our priority. To support our local businesses during this transition, the Director of the Business Development Center will continue in the role through June 2026 to assist current clients, provide warm hand-offs, and help connect our partners with the resources. ECC will also work closely with the Illinois SBDC Network and neighboring SBDC centers to ensure ongoing support for small businesses in our region.
We remain committed to strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem in our community and will work to ensure that local businesses continue to feel fully supported through this transition.
Success Stories
Her own boss - Real Change Studio
Elgin business owner Erin Ramirez wasn’t always her own boss. After years of life experiences and a push from her husband, she found the courage to step into the entrepreneurial space. Ready to leap but unsure how to succeed, Ramirez found the Illinois Small Business Development Center (The Illinois Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at ECC) at Elgin Community College, which became her lifeline.
Illinois Small Business Development Center Success Story
wineVEIL: A 5” x 5” piece of two-tone chiffon weighted with silver charms at each corner. Draped over a glass of wine to keep away insects, a wineVEIL transforms wine glasses, decanters, or bottles, creating an elegant touch for outdoor wine tastings, socializing, weddings, and other events. Yes, that is the description of the wineVEIL product. True, it’s unique and elegant. But for Lisa and Mark Hirth, it’s so much more than just a product.
