In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Writers Center welcomes poet, Fermina Ponce.

Native of Colombia, Fermina Ponce was named Deputy Poet Laureate of Aurora from 2020 to 2024. She published Todo este silencio, relatos sobre mi trastorno bipolar (All This Silence: Stories About My Bipolar Disorder), a non-fiction book this year. Her poetry also has been translated into English, French, Italian, and Arabic. Se llamará piedra received the Juan Felipe Herrera Award at the ILBA 2022. Her poetry collections Al desnudo and Mar de (L)una received honorable mentions at the ILBA Awards in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Fermina’s writing addresses universal themes, exploring human nature, its dualities, eroticism, and mental illnesses.
