Elgin Community College’s Hospitality Management program equips you with the essential skills to excel in the dynamic food and service hospitality industry. Our comprehensive curriculum emphasizes effective business communication, applying ethics and etiquette, and developing self-confidence in various dining scenarios in an onsite working restaurant. The program combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience, equipping you with the skills to excel in diverse hospitality roles. What is Hospitality Management?

Hospitality Management involves overseeing and coordinating various operations within the hospitality industry, including restaurants, event planning, and tourism. It focuses on delivering exceptional guest experiences, managing staff, and ensuring smooth daily operations. Professionals in this field are skilled in both the service aspects of hospitality and the business elements, including finance, marketing, and strategic planning. You’ll learn primary skills at ECC, which include:

  • Guest Services: Managing front-line services to ensure guests have a positive experience, including addressing customer inquiries.
  • Operations Management: Overseeing the daily operations of hospitality establishments to maintain efficiency and quality.
  • Staff Supervision: Recruiting, training, and managing staff to provide excellent service and maintain high standards.
  • Financial Management: Handling budgeting, financial planning, and cost control to ensure profitability.

What Will I Study for a Degree in Hospitality Management?

In the Associate of Applied Science in Hospitality Management program, you will explore essential areas such as cooking and baking fundamentals, business communications, and restaurant service operations. Before completing the program, you will also acquire practical experience through a hospitality management internship.

Key components of our program include:

  • Hands-On Experience: Participate in operating our restaurant, where you will gain practical skills in customer service, tableside service, beverage service, and diverse service styles.
  • Quantity Food Purchasing: Learn the principles of purchasing, receiving, and storing food to ensure efficient operations and high-quality service.
