Strategic Planning Open Comment Form

On August 15, 2024, ECC leadership shared its commitment to develop a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) strategic plan to enhance our support for Latinx students and the broader ECC community. Clarifying our mission and HSI identity is essential for evaluating strengths, identifying growth opportunities, and enhancing support for current and future initiatives sustainably.

To aid us in this planning, your feedback is crucial. Please share your comments, questions, and suggestions via this open comment form. We also invite you to visit the following webpage to view ECC's Mission, Shared Values and Philosophies.

What is a HSI and What is HSI “Servingness”?

Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) are colleges and universities which are designated by the U.S. Department of Education. In addition to a 25% Hispanic/Latinx enrollment criterion, institutions must have a high proportion of students with financial need, and demonstrate a commitment to supporting and advancing educational opportunities for their diverse population.

HSI “Servingness” is a concept used by educational scholars and practitioners and refers to the ways in which an institution can identify the ideal approaches to serving Latinx students. This is a multifaceted concept in nature and speaks to the ways in which HSIs can shift from merely enrolling Latinx students to meaningfully serving Latinx students holistically.
