ECC Police Department

Elgin CC Police Department Officers salute during the color guard presentation of flags.

Our police department officers are trained experts at preventing crime and enforcing the law on campus to ensure the safety of the ECC community. Minimizing crime opportunities and encouraging students and employees to be responsible for their security and the security of others are keys to safety. Be sure to contact ECC police immediately if you witness a crime, are victimized by a crime, or need other emergency aid.

Officers On Duty & Services Offered

ECC and Elgin police conduct routine vehicle and foot patrols of the campus buildings and grounds.

Patrol Schedule: Officers are on duty throughout the college's standard operational hours. Beyond patrolling, officers are assigned to various units, including investigations, crime prevention, parking enforcement, and safety.

Officer Safety Escort Service

For an escort to and from buildings on ECC's campus, don't hesitate to contact ECC Police at 847-214-7778 or extension 7778 from an on-campus phone. An officer will meet you at your vehicle in ECC’s parking lots or inside ECC buildings. This service is available from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week, throughout the academic year when the college is open.

Parking and Car Trouble

ECC Police and the Elgin Police Department enforce all regulations on campus.

During the first month of school, the ECC Police Department offers a parking ticket amnesty program. Anyone with an outstanding parking ticket (except handicapped violations) can settle it by donating to Spartan Pantry.

ECC Police also provides a free service with portable battery packs for vehicle jump-starts. To request this service, call 847-214-7777 or extension 7777 from an on-campus phone. They can assist in contacting a locksmith or garage of your choice for lockouts or other issues.

Unattended Children on Campus

Elgin Community College provides a safe and positive educational environment free from potential distractions. The college facilities and grounds are inappropriate places for unattended children, and ECC is not liable for visiting children without adult supervision. View Administrative Procedure 3.802 Unattended Children on Campus for more information.

Firearms/Weapons Free Campus

All persons are prohibited from possessing firearms and/or weapons on property owned, leased, or controlled by ECC, including those with a valid federal or state license to possess firearms or weapons unless authorized by law or expressly exempted by federal or state law or ECC regulation.
