Add Alt Text to Posts with Images

In the browser

To add alt text to an image in the browser version of X, formerly called Twitter:

  1. Click “Add description” below the image.

  2. Type your text in the “Description” box.
  3. If you are posting multiple images, switch between them by using the left and right arrow buttons at the top. Add a description for each.

  4. Click the “Save” button to continue editing your post.

In the mobile app

To add alt text in the X app:

  1. Click on the “+ALT” button at the bottom right of an image.

  2. Type your text in the “Describe this photo…” field.

  3. Click “Done” in the top right corner to save.
  4. Complete steps 1 through 3 for each image.

Add Captions to Video Posts

Captions can only be added to videos uploaded through the browser on X. They cannot be added through the app.

  1. Click “Upload caption file (.srt)” below the video.

  2. Click the “Upload captions” button to upload the SRT file.
