Two years ago, I was finalizing registration and submitting my housing deposit for a state university. Weeks later, while evaluating the cost of attendance, I made the sensible decision to attend Elgin Community College. I was distraught, thinking I was missing out on the adventure of university life. In retrospect, I could not have been more wrong.
Throughout my two years at ECC, I have been fortunate enough to receive complete tuition and books due to the scholarships I have received. I have been the recipient of multiple ECC Foundation scholarships which I am grateful for.
I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa and this spring I will be graduating with academic high honors. I am transferring to Northern Illinois University to complete my degree in health sciences and will further my education by attending graduate school for a degree in physician assistant studies.
ECC has been more than just an educational experience for me. I have met some of the most impactful professors who have helped guide me through my studies. Through some of the connections I have made, I began working as a chemistry lab assistant.
If I could give one piece of advice to my old self, I would say to trust the process. You are not alone on this journey.
