Aristotle’s quote “Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work” rings true for Brandi Clemmons, event coordinator, who works in Elgin Community College’s Facilities Rental and Food Services division. There, she works mainly with external organizations looking to rent space at the college. Events that she has coordinated range in size from five people to 2,000.
“I enjoy working at ECC because no two days are the same,” says Clemmons. “I’m able to engage with surrounding community members and work alongside some pretty amazing people while doing so.”
Her optimistic outlook and [Greek] philosophy haven’t gone unnoticed; Clemmons has been at ECC since 2015, and was nominated for the 2018 William Foulkes Support Staff of the Year Award. “Somewhere, someone at ECC feels that I’m an A-OK person, and that makes me happy,” she said.
We caught up with Clemmons to learn more about her life and her work at ECC. Here is what she had to say.
What’s something about your job that others should know?
It’s not for everyone. You have to love interacting with all types of personalities and enjoy fast-paced environments.
What would you do if you were ECC president for a day?
Free lunch for all. Food always tastes better when it’s free. (Editor’s note: If Brandi is coordinating lunch, we’re in!)
If there was a movie about your life, who would you want to play you?
Tessa Thompson. I love everything she touches, and I know she would make my story a box office hit.
What’s on your “bucket list?”
To be on Family Feud. Fast money, here I come!
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy cruising and traveling in general. I’ve been on seven cruises so far with hopes to cruise around Spain in the near future. I also collect watches. Some of my favorite brands are Invicta and Citizen.
Where was the best place you’ve traveled to? Or, where would you like to visit?
The best place I’ve been to date is Turks and Caicos. One day, I would like to visit and explore Phuket, Thailand.
What’s one fact we should know about you?
I absolutely adore my grandparents. They can do no wrong. Also, my name is spelled with an “i”—not a “y”, or an “ie,” or “ee.”
What was your favorite class in school?
Forensic Science. There’s something about that murder mystery…
What was your first job out of school?
I worked for the Ounce of Prevention Fund as a development and events coordinator.
