ECC announces 2023 NISOD Award winners

Five Elgin Community College employees have been selected to receive the 2023 National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Awards. The award recognizes outstanding faculty, staff, and administrators of community and technical colleges.

“The NISOD Excellence Awards recognize individuals doing extraordinary work on their campuses,” said Peggy Heinrich, EdD, vice president of teaching, learning, and student development. “This year’s winners represent a combination of full and part-time faculty, support staff, and administrators who are doing things that go above and beyond to ensure all students at ECC succeed. Their commitment to student success is the common factor linking them together, though they contribute to that success in different ways, with kindness and compassion always serving as the key ingredient.”

The award winners include Liddy Hope, assistant professor of human services; Natalie Leisering, director of academic advising; Debra Norden, office coordinator, sustainability, business, and career technologies division; David Strossner, emergency services unit adjunct faculty; and Erin Vobornik, English as a Second Language (ESL) unit adjunct faculty.

In February, these individuals will represent ECC at the League for Innovation in the Community College’s Innovations Conference or the NISOD International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence in May.

ECC NISOD recipients are also submitted to receive the John and Suanne Roueche Excellence Award with the League for Innovation, which celebrates outstanding contributions and leadership by community college faculty and staff.
