ECC to host Sept. 28 fair featuring nearly a dozen Historically Black Colleges and Universities

Representatives from nearly a dozen Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) will be at Elgin Community College on Saturday, Sept. 28, for the third annual HBCU fair. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Jobe Lounge, located in Building B, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin, IL.

ECC's Multicultural and Global Initiatives Committee (MAGIC) is kicking off their fall discussion series "Beyond Awareness" on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. with "What's race got to do with it?," a free screening of the film "Race - The Power of an Illusion" and a discussion afterwards.

Chair of the Illinois Dream Fund to speak at Sept 13. ECC Latinx Heritage Month Kickoff Brunch

Elgin Community College’s celebration of Latinx Heritage Month begins with a keynote address by Tanya Cabrera, assistant vice provost for student inclusion at the University of Illinois-Chicago’s Office of Diversity and the chair of the Illinois Dream Fund Commission, at the kick-off brunch on Friday, Sept. 13. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon in the Building E Dining Room, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

ECC students recognized on spring 2019 academic scholars list

Congratulations to the 828 students named to the President’s List for the spring 2019 semester. To achieve the President’s List distinction, students must complete a minimum of six credit hours of undergraduate level courses (100 level or above) during a semester with a term grade point average of 4.00. Together, the President of ECC and the Assistant Vice President of Student Services and Development/Dean of Students applaud students for their academic achievements.

Exciting, interactive classes are in session this summer at ECC’s Kids’ College

Registration is open for Kids’ College, a summer enrichment day camp offering a variety of classes of every interest to children and teens ages six to 15. The program runs weekly Monday through Thursday from June 17 to June 27 and July 8 to July 25, in half-day sessions that last four days each. All classes are held at Elgin Community College’s Spartan Drive Campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

ECC Project Backpack seeks school supply donations for local students

Elgin Community College and its partners are preparing for the 10th anniversary of Project Backpack, a community-based initiative to benefit area students in need. Donations of school supplies will be accepted through Friday, July 12, at several locations. The school supply give-away event will take place Saturday, Aug. 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Building J Spartan Events Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

ECC's Building H, home of the Elgin Community College Arts Center, will have a fresh new look in fall of 2019 after a summer of renovations. The updates to the building will arrive just in time for the Arts Center’s 25th anniversary season.

ECC’s spring commencement to be held May 18

Elgin Community College will hold two commencement ceremonies for the spring 2019 graduating class on Saturday, May 18. Five hundred thirty-four graduating students are expected to participate. Both ceremonies will be held in the Building J Events Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. Students are assigned to the graduation ceremony based on the credential being earned.

Fisher Nuts contest yields creative dishes from ECC students

Eight Elgin Community College culinary students were tough nuts to crack as they competed for scholarship prizes during the annual ECC/Fisher Nuts Recipe Competition on Wednesday, April 17 at the college’s Spartan Terrace Restaurant.
