Actor Randy Otto’s acclaimed portrayal of Sir Winston Churchill will enthrall audiences during “Winston Churchill: The Blitz” at the Elgin Community College Arts Center on Sunday, April 28 at 3 p.m.
As the historic leader, Otto transports the audience to a London rooftop in the 1940s where Churchill, with gravitas and grit, leads the British people to victory. Otto portrays Churchill’s unwavering, audacious belief that if the British people were simply trusted with the truth—no matter how bad things got—they would only get stronger and more resilient. Following the performance there will be an interactive “Ask Winston” Q&A.
Otto’s Winston Churchill was inspired by a simple encouragement from his British history professor, Dr. Maxwell Schoenfeld, in 1973. Schoenfeld encouraged Otto not only to study Churchill’s life academically, but also to emulate the great man on stage. Now, with over four decades of committed academic Churchill study, Randy Otto is an expert on virtually all aspects of Churchill’s life. An alumnus of the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre and numerous theatrical roles, Otto combined his knowledge of Churchill with his theatrical background and created a one-man show designed to entertain and electrify.
Jonathan Sandys, Sir Winston Churchill’s great-grandson, lauds Otto’s performance saying,
“I have heard many people attempt to play the role of my great-grandfather but, without hesitation, Randy Otto takes the role to a whole new level. Randy does not attempt to be Winston Churchill, Randy Otto is Winston Churchill.”
