Prospective Students


Studying

  • AccessECC-student portal: Enter portal.elgin.edu into the browser URL and log in with your student credentials on your phone or web browser.
  • Computers: Chromebooks are available for checkout if you don't have one at home. If you need it for summer classes at ECC, let us know at circdesk@elgin.edu.
  • D2L My Classes: Online courses are a part of the D2L learning environment.
  • D2L Student Orientation: Classes, online tutoring, and librarians within the platform.
  • D2L Technical Assistance: Log-in, find out the server status, and get technical support.
  • Drive-Up wi-fi Hotspots: Illinois state agencies released a wi-fi hotspot map to help students without internet access at home.
  • Gmail (Faculty & Student): When prompted, enter your full ECC student email address (lexample1234@student.elgin.edu) and your portal password.
  • Google Meet: Use your student email, and this tool lets dozens of people join the same virtual meeting and speak or share videos from anywhere with Internet access.
  • Library Circulation Department: Due dates for items checked out currently is June 1 unless another arrangement has been made. Questions? Email libref@elgin.edu.
  • No Harm Grading: ECC is giving students an option for the Spring 2020 semester due to the pandemic. For Spring 2020 courses ending after May 13, 2020, you will have 15 days following the class section end date at 11:59 p.m. CDT to elect a no harm grade for one or more of your course grades. Contact an academic advisor if you have questions. Learn more about no harm grading.

  • Wireless Internet: Several providers are offering discounted wi-fi service.

Teaching

  • AccessECC–employee portal: The AccessECC portal is available at portal.elgin.edu into the browser URL. The site also automatically resizes your phone.
  • Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning: Remote Teaching Section includes 1) Faculty Questions and Suggestions Forum 2) Teaching Strategies 3) Archive of Peggy's messages and Student Support Information. See the video demonstration. Questions? Email Tyler Roeger.
  • D2L Remote Teaching: Getting started with the tools you'll need. Includes links to videos on using the recommended D2L Tools.
  • D2L Technical Assistance: Log-in, find out the server status, and get technical support.
  • ECC IT Services: Request access to directories and systems, etc. Employees who have technical issues are asked to contact Information Technology (IT) through email only. IT will contact you by phone if they need to follow up with you. Questions? Email helpdesk@elgin.edu.
  • File Access: Log in with an academic account to access files saved to your 'My Documents' and 'Desktop' using ECC's network file server when you're not on campus. Questions? Email helpdesk@elgin.edu.

  • Help Desk-report a problem/incident: Employees who have technical issues are asked to contact Information Technology (IT) through. IT will contact you by phone if they need to follow up with you. They are not available via direct phone calls. Also, they are asking that you not send a request through the internal system (SysAid). Questions? Email helpdesk@elgin.edu.
  • Technical Help: Get specialized assistance for all online services. You may access most of these resources off-campus, too.

Getting Support

ECC has the resources you need to support your education outside the classroom and help you sustain your academic pursuits.

  • Academic Advising: Appointments will be offered remotely. Please schedule your 30-minute appointment online via the AccessECC student portal. Questions? Email advising@elgin.edu.
  • Academic Records: Outgoing transcripts and other services are available on the AccessECC portal. Questions? Email records@elgin.edu.
  • Apprenticeships: Employers are actively hiring their fall apprentices. Please email Lisa Utley or complete the interest form.
  • Athletics: Interested in participating in athletics? Complete the form and will be contacted. On-campus meetings by appointment only.   • Book orders and rental returns: Although the ECC Bookstore is not open to students or the public during this time, you can use our new curbside pick-up service to return rental books or pick up books you've ordered online. Questions? Please email eccbookstore@elgin.edu.
  • Career Development Services: Appointments offered remotely. Schedule your appointment on the AccessECC portal. Questions? Email careerservices@elgin.edu.
  • Federal Financial Aid: Staff is answering questions about your financial aid and accepting financial aid forms and documents via email. We will be awarding financial assistance during this time and, if you are eligible for any grants, we will email you and let you know that you have been awarded. If you do not qualify for a grant and need a student loan, please email us, and we will work with you directly. Students may inquire about on-campus appointments by calling 847-214-7360 or email financialaid@elgin.edu.
  • Financial Assistance: In this trying time, the ECC Foundation has created the Student Emergency Relief Fund to provide resources to students who are most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Learn how to apply for help by visiting the Student Emergency Relief Fund page.
  • International Education and Programs: International Education and Programs: Check your email daily for critical weekly updates from the Center for International Education and Programs about maintaining your nonimmigrant status. Please also log into D2L to complete the required work in the course, "International Student Success." For homestay questions or issues, please email Natalie Escobar. For current homestay students, call the homestay emergency line for immediate assistance. Remote support is also available through virtual appointments. Questions? Email international@elgin.edu.
  • Internships: Begin or continue planning for your placement. Please email Joseph Onesimus or complete the interest form.
  • Recruitment: Prospective students may request on-campus appointments by emailing admissions@elgin.edu or calling 847-214-7385. Campus virtual tours are now being offered using the sign-up form
  • Registration: Summer and Fall registration are now open. 
  • Resources for the Unemployed: Although many places of businesses are closed, there are still local employers hiring. If you or a family member need off-campus work, visit elgin.edu/hirespartans.
  • Scholarships: If you have applied for a Foundation or Board of Trustees Academic Scholarship and, if you are awarded one (or both), you will receive an email confirming which scholarship(s) you receive and the amount(s). Applications are still being accepted, and you can go to the application page to apply. If you receive a private scholarship that has been mailed to ECC, please check to confirm it was received and that you have been awarded the scholarship. If your sponsor is unable to send the check at this time, let us know so that we can help you.
  • Software at Home: Get a free Microsoft Office 365 with the Free Office 365 Education offers. Enter your student Gmail address (example1234@student.elgin.edu) and click "Get Started." Click, "I'm a student." Enter your First/Last Name as well as Date of birth as required to sign up with Microsoft. Create a new password for your Microsoft account (we do not recommend using your same ECC password). Check your student Gmail inbox for an email from Microsoft with the required 6-digit verification code (this takes a few minutes). Click "Start" to complete the sign-up process.
  • Student Success and Judicial Affairs: If you receive communication from your academic advisor or John Long regarding a Spartan Alert, please know the purpose of this is to assist you. Please respond to the request to meet as quickly as possible. Meetings can be conducted by phone or via Google Meet. If you are experiencing challenges, whether academic or personal (or somewhere in between), and are unsure of where to go or who to speak with, contact John Long directly, he's here to help.
  • Spartan Food Pantry: Do you need food and toiletries? You can get these resources from Food for Greater Elgin (1553 Commerce Dr, Elgin, IL 60123) when you bring a valid student photo ID. Additional food pantries in Kane County are listed in the Community Wellness Resources page Questions? Email spartanfoodpantry@elgin.edu.
  • Student Accounts: Offering remote services, however, students may inquire about on-campus appointments by emailing studentaccounts@elgin.eduor call 847-214-7380. Need to make a payment? Log in to your accessECC account. Go to the Self-Service Menu Select Student Menu; click Student Finance and then select Make a Payment.
  • Student Disabilities Services: This office remains ready to assist students in any way possible. If you have not yet requested accommodation letters through our new online system, go to Disability Services, under Returning Students, click on Request Form. If you are new to Student Disabilities Services, click on Registration Form. Questions or concerns regarding your accommodations? Please email Pietrina Probst, Director of ADA and Student Disabilities Services.
  • Student Life: ECC Students who would like to remain involved and share suggestions are welcome to email Student Life at studentlife@elgin.edu. To see which events are active, postponed, and canceled, go to Facebook for updates.
  • Testing Services: Strongly encourages remote testing for reading, writing, math, and geometry placement. Email testing@elgin.edu to indicate which placement test you are interested in taking. Appointment-only testing is being offered for student certifications and assessments that do not have remote options. These tests include certification exams, Psychological Service Bureau (PSB) testing, and placement testing for those who do not have access to supported devices. Dates, times, registration, and payment (if required) can be completed here.
  • TRiO: Student Support Services (SSS), Student Support Services ESL (SSSESL), Talent Search, and Upward Bound? Speak to your Trio Specialist
  • Tutoring/The Write Place: Sign up for live online tutoring sessions via Google Meet for all subjects. Reserve up to one hour of online tutoring per subject, per day (available in 30-minute blocks). Share your documents with a tutor via Google Docs as well. Questions? Email tutoring@elgin.edu.
