New York’s dynamic incubator for emerging writers presents a fascinating look into creating new work! The first act will feature scenes from two new plays in development. During the second act, longtime friend of the Arts Center Chris Snock (American Place Theatre Literature to Life® and Rock ‘n Roll Theatre) will premiere his latest play.

  • Slice 1: Papa GreyBeard (working title) is inspired by writer/actor Tarantino Smith’s 16 years of portraying Mr. Claus in New York City's most famous department store. Hop on Santa's sleigh as Smith takes you "behind the beard" with true tales that will make you laugh, cry, and warm your heart!
  • Slice 2: Irene Kapustina’s Unpitied is based on real-life stories of prisoners at Tadmor in Eastern Syria, a prison infamous for human rights abuses. The play tells the story of Karim who, after 12 years in Tadmor, moves to Chicago and learns to live and love again. Kapustina is the artistic/executive director of The Angle Project.
  • Slice 3: Chris Snock’s Mind the Line is set in the 22nd century, where words rule and language dictates behavior. Influenced by Franz Kafka and George Orwell, the play tells the story of a couple’s descent into a complex, ever-evolving linguistic world. Snock is the founder of New York Writers Dojo.
  • PLUS—To complete the New York ambiance, we’ll be serving up 99-cent pizza slices!

The SecondSpace Theatre is located in Building H, Elgin Community College, in Elgin, Illinois 60123.
