Testing Scores Summary

College readiness can be demonstrated through any one of the following ways:

  1. Test Scores - ECC accepts ACT®, SAT®, PARCC®, HiSet®, and high school equivalency test scores to satisfy minimum competency requirements. See placement test scores chart for more information.
  2. High School Transition Coursework - If you have successfully completed a high school transition math or English course with a C or better, you will be placed according to the Transition Course completed. Please submit official 8th semester high school transcripts to the ECC  for review.
  3. High School GPA -  If you have earned a high school cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on an unweighted 4.0 scale, you can be placed into college-level English and any course with English as a minimum competency. If you have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on an unweighted 4.0 scale with successful completion of a C or better in both semesters of a 4th year of math, you can be placed into certain college-level math courses. Students wishing to place into college-level algebra must also take the ALEKS placement test. Please submit your official 8th semester high school transcript to the ECC  for review.
  4. Prior College Coursework - If you have taken courses at another college or university, you may have satisfied minimum competency requirements. Please submit official college transcripts to the ECC Admissions Office for review.
  5. Early College Credit - ECC accepts advanced placement (AP), college-level examination program (CLEP), and international baccalaureate (IB) exams. AP scores must be a minimum of 3. CLEP scores must be a minimum of 50. For ENG 101 credit, you must take the College Composition Modular & Essay exam; on that test, you must earn a minimum of 50 and pass the essay portion. IB scores must be a minimum of 4. For more information on the course credit awarded, review our advanced testing information.
  6. ECC Placement Tests - If you have not taken the ACT®, SAT®, PARCC®, HiSet®, or high school equivalency tests or if you do not meet any of the criteria listed above, you must take ECC’s placement tests in reading, writing, and/or math. If you meet the college-readiness math requirement and want to enroll into MTH 114, MTH 120, MTH 125, MTH 126, or MTH 190, you will also need to take the ALEKS placement assessment.

Note: ACT Math, SAT Math, and ALEKS Math placement scores are valid for two years. ACT Reading or Writing, SAT Reading and Writing, and ECC’s Reading and Writing placement scores are valid for five years from the date the test is taken. All students must meet course prerequisites.
