Radiography Admissions Steps and Materials


Elgin Community College's radiography program is a JRCERT-accredited associate degree program which provides accessible and relevant education in accordance with the highest professional standards. The Program, in partnership with its clinical partners, will graduate competent radiographers that practice excellent patient-centered care to the diverse populations within the community.

Admission Steps

All radiography candidates must attend an information session prior to applying for admission to the radiography program. All candidates must submit the following information/documentation by December 15 for their application to be considered. If December 15 falls on a weekend, packets are due on the Friday before that date. Except in the case there is space available, late applications will be considered for the next year.

Admission Materials

  1. Completed ECC application for admission
  2. Completed ECC Health Professions Application - PDF.
  3. Complete the PSB HOA Admissions Test. Copy of PSB HOA test scores (must be a minimum of 25 percentile in each category to be considered)
  4. Completion of prerequisites BIO 110, college level math course (MTH 102 recommended), HPE 112 and PSY 100 with a grade of “C” or better (as shown on college transcript).
  5. Official transcripts for any courses being transferred from other schools. To request a transcript evaluation please visit our transfer credit evaluation page.

All Candidates are evaluated using the following criteria:

  1. PSB HOA test scores
    • minimum of 25%ile in each of 7 categories to qualify
    • Can only take the test twice in a 2-year period
    • Counts 50% admission ranking
  2. ACT composite score of 21 or higher OR GPA for up to 19 credit hours of the required general education courses for AAS in radiography
    • Counts 25% admission ranking
  3. GPA of the 4 prerequisite courses
    • Counts 25% admission ranking

New radiography classes start each summer term.

**Note that EFFECTIVE Fall 2014, completion of BIO 245 with a grade of “C” or higher will be a prerequisite to starting the program. The course does NOT have to be completed prior to the December 15th application deadline, however.

Advanced Certificate Admissions & Materials


Elgin Community College's advanced imaging programs in Magnetic Resonance, Computed Tomography and Mammography provide accessible and relevant education in accordance with the highest professional standards. The Programs, in partnership with their clinical affiliates, will provide the healthcare community with competent advanced imaging technologists that provide high quality images and excellent patient care.

Entrance Requirements

Candidates for the Mammography Program must be ARRT-registered in radiography and a graduate of a JRCERT-accredited imaging program. Candidates for CT and MR Programs must be ARRT-registered in radiography or radiation therapy and a graduate of a JRCERT-accredited imaging program; or ARRT or NMTCB-registered in nuclear medicine technology and a graduate of a JRCNMT-accredited nuclear medicine technology program; or ARRT or ARDMS-registered in sonography and a graduate of a JRCDMS-accredited sonography program. In addition, candidates for the MR program must possess the minimum of an associate’s degree.

Note: Criminal background checks and drug testing are required for all health professions programs. Students demonstrating a positive background check or positive drug test will be denied admission to health professions programs. Students demonstrating a positive background check or positive drug test while enrolled in health professions programs will be dismissed from the program.
