CNC programmer
Overview
Master your programming skills using actual CNC equipment, and specialize in computer-aided manufacturing or traditional machine tool processes at Elgin Community College. Our Associate and certificate programs prepare you for entry-level employment in high-demand jobs such as general machinist, tool-and-die maker, mold maker, special machine builder, maintenance machinist, computer-aided manufacturing technician, computer numerical control (CNC) operator or programmer, set-up specialist, industrial sales, and supervision. High School Students may be interested in exploring CNC Programming as a dual credit opportunity for advanced manufacturing.
While in the program, you will learn about computer-controlled production machines, including a variety of machine tools running on CNC-programmed instructions. You’ll have the technical skill needed for employment in a highly skilled trade; you may decide to take additional courses in liberal arts and the sciences to broaden your academic background and prepare for a supervisory position. Upon graduation, you will have the skills, knowledge, and experience to enter the third year of a four-year tool and die apprenticeship.

- CNC Programmer-Vocational Certificate: Earn a Vocational Certificate from Elgin Community College and work in a highly skilled trade using computer numerically controlled machine tools to manufacture a variety of parts and products using precision tools. Take classes in advanced math, blueprint reading, computer-aided design, computer-aided manufacturing, and metrology, and you’ll have the skills needed for a position in this industry. Students can earn the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) and Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC) certification, giving students additional qualifications increasing their competitiveness for jobs.

Computer Integrated Manufacturing Degree
In addition to the two-year Computer Integrated Mfg Option-AAS, Associate in Industrial Manufacturing Technology, or Machine Tool Technology-AAS, you can pursue certifications. All of ECC’s certifications emphasize career-readiness and provide preparation for immediate employment.
