Naming of College Facilities

Naming of College Facilities 6.101

Elgin Community College buildings and portions thereof, including exterior campus areas, may be named to honor significant and lasting contributions made to the College.  Recommendations for naming buildings, or portions thereof, will be submitted to the President for consideration by the Board. In the absence of a name, the buildings, or portions thereof, may be designated alphabetically or by function.

The following are approved guidelines for the selection of names for campus buildings or portions thereof:

  1. The name will be significant to, and have meaning for, the various constituencies served by the College.
  2. Nominees for named recognition may be persons, companies, or organizations who make a significant contribution, financial or otherwise, to the College.
  3. If not named for the purpose of recognition, the name will be logical in terms of the building's function.
  4. Whenever possible, functional names assigned to various areas of the campus will conform to an identifiable pattern.
  5. If named by function and the function of a structure or area changes, or is redesigned, the structure or area may be renamed.
  6. If not named for the purpose of recognition or function, the building will be named alphabetically.

Should renovation, relocation, or removal of any named space on campus be necessary, care will be taken to work with the ECC Foundation to notify affected donors prior to the start of construction or demolition.
