About the Talent Search Transitions Program

The Talent Search Transitions Program at ECC provides academic, career, and financial counseling to participating students to help them graduate from high school and continue onto post-secondary education. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, the program provides services to qualified middle and high school students who want additional guidance navigating their paths and options.

Program Eligibility

The Talent Search Transitions Program serves students who are in grades 8–12.

Middle school students must attend Abbott, Ellis, Kimball, Larsen, Carpentersville, Canton, or Tefft Middle Schools.

High school students must attend Elgin, Larkin, Streamwood, or Dundee-Crown High Schools. Students must meet the following criteria:

  1. Student is a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident.
  2. Family demonstrates financial need OR;
  3. Student is a potential first-generation college student (neither parent(s)/legal guardian(s) graduated from a four-year college or university in the U.S.).

  • Goal setting and post-secondary planning
  • Academic support
  • Assistance in preparing for college entrance examinations
  • Support in completing college admission applications
  • Guidance in completing financial aid applications
  • Tour colleges
  • Workshops for parents/guardians

Steps to Apply

To be considered for the program, please submit a complete application, including additional verification documents. If the student is under 18 years old, the guardian must help complete the application packet. You can submit by choosing one of the columns below and completing its labeled steps:

These additional verification documents are required to prove the student’s eligibility for this federal program:

  • Last completed and signed 1040 tax forms
  • Child’s Birth Certificate
  • Child’s Social Security card
  • Child’s Medical/Insurance card

Our ability to serve students is determined on a first-come, first-serve basis. Therefore, it is important to turn in the application and all supporting documents as soon as possible. All submitted applications and documentation are kept confidential.
