Coronavirus (COVID-19)

For all ECC's updates and information regarding COVID-19, visit elgin.edu/emergencymanagement.

Upon careful review of the latest travel advisories issued to Italy by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Warning - Level 3, Avoid Nonessential Travel and the U.S. Department of State Level 3: Reconsider Travel and a Level 4 - Do Not Travel to certain regions, the College has decided to postpone the Language and Culture 2020 study abroad program to Urbania, Italy until summer 2021. The decision comes after an increased number of confirmed COVID-19 in Italy and our responsibility for duty of care to the college community. The health and wellbeing of Elgin Community College students continues to be our number one priority, and we seek to make decisions and provide guidance with these priorities in mind.

The Center for International Education and Programs will work with interested students to identify alternative programs that will accept late applications for summer 2020. If you are still interested in studying abroad in summer 2020, there are options to study abroad in Costa Rica, Ireland, France, and Spain. Please contact the Center for International Education and Programs at 847-214-7809 or reply to this email to schedule an appointment to discuss these alternative options. You will be able to use many of the materials you submitted for your application to study abroad in Italy to apply to alternative programs.

Elgin Community College deeply values global education, and we appreciate your patience and understanding in making this difficult decision to postpone the Language and Culture 2020 study abroad program to Urbania, Italy.

Please contact international@elgin.edu if you have questions or need guidance or resources regarding this notice or to schedule an appointment to discuss alternative summer 2020 study abroad options.
