Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Elgin Community College continues to closely monitor the COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation in Italy. Upon careful review of the latest travel advisories issued to Italy by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Warning - Level 3, Avoid Nonessential Travel and the U.S. Department of State Level 3: Reconsider Travel and a Level 4 - Do Not Travel to certain regions, the College has decided to postpone the Culinary Arts and Hospitality study abroad program to Urbania, Italy until May 2021. The decision comes after an increased number of confirmed COVID-19 in Italy and our responsibility for duty of care to the college community. The health and wellbeing of Elgin Community College students continues to be our number one priority, and we seek to make decisions and provide guidance with these priorities in mind.

Further details and information regarding the May 2021 dates will be provided in the near future. Students accepted into the Culinary Arts and Hospitality study abroad program to Urbania, Italy for May 2020 will remain eligible for the May 2021 program if the following requirements are met:

  • Completion of a minimum of 10 event stamps by March 15, 2020.
  • Required attendance at all assigned fundraising events through May 14, 2020.
  • No disciplinary record on file with the Office of the Dean of Student Services and Development.
  • No outstanding financial obligations to ECC.
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0/4.0 through the end of the 2020-2021 academic year.
  • Attend mandatory pre-departure orientation in spring 2021.

Students will not be required to maintain the enrollment requirement for the 2020-2021 academic year or participate in mandatory fundraising events after May 14, 2020.

Further information regarding the May 2021 program will be released as soon as it is available, along with information regarding how to confirm or withdraw your participation in the May 2021 program.
