ECC Schedule Updates for Spring Semester

Even as we write this message, we realize changes could occur that will affect campus operations, teaching, and instruction for the next few months. We also know in these uncertain times that it is important to have information that helps you make important decisions and plan ahead. At the time of this communication, there have been no confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 on any of the ECC locations.

As promised, Elgin Community College is committed to keeping you informed and would like to share this important update, including a week-by-week outline, to ensure a successful academic semester for students and a safe and healthy campus for all. Below is a tentative outline of information that begins Tuesday, March 17, and extends through the end of the spring semester.

Tuesday, March 17 to Sunday, March 22

  • There are no classes in session on campus or online this week.
  • Offices related to student support services on campus are closed.
  • Faculty members do not report to work and are preparing to deliver remote instruction.
  • Employees (administrators and staff) do not report to work on campus with the exception of a small number of employees who will be contacted by their supervisors to perform critical functions.
  • Supervisors will contact employees regarding work to be performed remotely.

Monday, March 23 to Sunday, March 29

  • All facilities closed: spring recess, no classes in session.

Monday, March 30 to Sunday, April 5

  • Instruction resumes in alternative learning formats (remotely) with the exception of some labs and other specialized courses.  There are no classes in session on campus this week.
  • Offices related to student support services on campus are closed. The following services will be available to students remotely (with limited hours):

  • Employees (administrators and staff) do not report to work on campus with the exception of a small number of employees who will be contacted by their supervisors to perform critical functions.
  • Administrators and staff will work remotely as directed by their supervisors.
  • Students will work remotely using alternative delivery formats (remotely). Faculty will communicate directly with their students regarding specific details.

Monday, April 6 through the end of the spring semester (tentative)

  • Instruction continues in alternative learning formats (remotely) through the end of this semester.
  • Lab classes and other specialized classes will resume on campus. Faculty will provide detailed instructions to students for these types of courses.
  • Employees report to work on campus as scheduled.

We want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to protect the health and well- being of students, faculty, staff, administrators, and visitors. Please keep in mind that information regarding COVID-19 is rapidly evolving. Further information and changes to this schedule will be communicated via email and will be available on the emergency management website. We want to also remind you that we are stronger together. Let’s continue to remain calm and proactive in the coming days.
