July 7, 2014 – Add Another Award – Not only did the ECC Women’s Tennis team achieve Region IV and Illinois Skyway Collegiate championship titles this season, they also received a 2014 NJCAA All-Academic Team Award.  In order to be nominated for this prestigious award, a team’s overall grade point average must be 3.0 or better.  The Spartans easily attained this mark with a 3.22 GPA. 

May 6, 2014 – Success at the NJCAA Nationals – The ECC women’s tennis team put in a solid showing at the NJCAA Division I Women’s Tennis National Championship held in Tyler, Texas.  This tournament features the top talent at the community college level, and the Spartans held their own.

In the #2 Singles flight, Cassie McElroy advanced to the Round of 16 with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Spartanburg Methodist College’s Taylor Carpenter. McElroy was defeated by Joanna-Nena Savva (Tyler Junior College) 6-0, 6-0.

Maria Morales-Nelson, in the #5 Singles flight, defeated Naomie Bukassa (Seward County Community College) 6-0, 6-4, but was defeated by Samantha Powell (Florida State College) 6-0, 6-2 in the Round of 16.

Alina Patthana, at #6 Singles, also advanced to the Round of 16, and lost to Courtney Moore (Snead State Community College) 7-5, 6-2.

Stacy Krach advanced to the quarterfinals in the #3 Singles Consolation bracket through two byes, but was defeated by Alexa Armon (Moraine Valley Community College) 8-4.

The #2 Doubles team of Natalie Judkins and Stacy Krach made it to the Consolation Quarterfinal Round where they were defeated 8-1 by Brittney Buker and Victoria Rose (Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College).

Aida De La Fuente and Ellie Weber, in the #3 Doubles flight, lost to Kindra Holliday and Sally Stover (Eastern Arizona College) 8-0 in the second round of the consolation bracket.

June Lynch in the #1 Singles flight, Cristal Tinajero at #4 Singles and the #1 Doubles team of Lynch and McElroy each were eliminated in the Round of 32 and the first round of the consolation bracket.

The team finished 23rd in a field of 31 teams. 

October 12, 2013 – Spartans Headed to Nationals – The Spartans weren’t content with earning the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference title last week. They did one better by defeating eight other teams at the Region IV Tournament this weekend to win the championship.  With the championship in hand, ECC will compete at the NJCAA Nationals which will be held May 3-8, 2014 in Tyler, Texas.

Winning in the Region IV finals matches and earning All-Region First Team honors were Spartans Maria Morales-Nelson (#5 Singles) and the doubles team of Stacy Krach and Natalie Judkins (#2 Doubles). Advancing to the finals were June Lynch (#1 Singles), Cristal Tinajero (#4 Singles), Alina Patthana (#6 Singles), and the doubles team of Aida De la Fuente and Ellie Weber (#3 Doubles).  Cassie McElroy (#2 Singles), Stacy Krach (#3 Singles) and the doubles team of June Lynch and Cassie McElroy (#1 Doubles) reached the semi-final rounds of the tournament.

Head coach Clark Hallpike, who was recently named to the Elgin Community College Athletics Hall of Fame, was named the Region IV Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year. 

October 4, 2013 – Skyway Conference Champs! – Going into Friday’s contest against Moraine Valley Community College, both ECC and Moraine Valley had identical 4-0 records in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference. When the match was completed, the Spartans had accomplished one of their goals for the season; an ISCC championship.

Winning their matches in the 6-3 victory for ECC were June Lynch (#1 Singles), Cristal Tinajero (#4 Singles), Natalie Judkins (#5 Singles), Lynch/Cassie McElroy (#1 Doubles), Stacy Krach/Judkins (#2 Doubles) and Ellie Weber/Aida De la Fuente (#3 Doubles). The majority of the singles play was hard fought with the #3, #4 and #5 matches all going to tiebreakers.

More good news followed the win as Spartan Maria Morales-Nelson earned ISCC All-Conference First Team honors.

The Spartans now head into post-season play to compete in the Region IV Tournament in Palos Hills on October 11-12.  The team that claims the Region IV title will travel to Tyler, Texas for the NJCAA National Championships which will be held May 3-8, 2014. 

October 3, 2013 – Spartans Blank Chaparrals – ECC hosted the College of DuPage today at Centre Court in Hanover Park, and at the end of the afternoon came away with a 9-0 win.  The Spartans who won their matches were June Lynch, Cassie McElroy, Stacy Krach, Cristal Tinajero, Natalie Judkins, Alina Patthana, Ellie Weber and Aida De la Fuente.

ECC’s last regular season match is a big one. They will face Moraine Valley Community College on Friday, October 4 in Palos Hills at 2:45 p.m.  With both teams undefeated in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference, the winner will claim the conference title. 

September 27, 2013 – Spartans Run Win Streak to Six – The Spartans increased their win streak to six matches in a row with their 6-3 victory over Sauk Valley Community College.  ECC’s June Lynch, Stacy Krach, Cristal Tinajero and Alina Patthana each won in singles. Winning in doubles for the Spartans were the teams of Lynch/Cassie McElroy and Krach/Natalie Judkins.

ECC will play its last home date of the regular season on Thursday, October 3. They’ll face the College of DuPage with the matches beginning at 3:00 p.m. 

September 24, 2013 – Spartans Blank Raiders – With their 9-0 win today over Oakton Community College, the ECC women’s tennis team has won its last five matches in a row. They hope to continue the win streak when they play Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon on Friday, September 27 at 3:00 p.m. 

September 20, 2013 – Another Spartan Win – In today’s match against Illinois Valley Community College, held on the courts of Judson University, the Spartans defeated the Eagles 6-3. ECC won four of its six singles matches and won two out of three in doubles.

Next up for the Spartans is a match against Oakton Community College on Tuesday, September 24 at 2:45 p.m.  The match, weather permitting, will be played at Judson University in Elgin.  Should the teams need to go indoors, the match will be played at Centre Court in Hanover Park. 

September 19, 2013 – Spartans Drop Lancers – In a not so usual meeting of conference opponents, ECC defeated the College of Lake County 9-0. The #1 singles match was the only action on the courts as Lake County forfeited the other eight matches to ECC. Spartan June Lynch easily won her match 6-0, 6-0.

ECC next faces Illinois Valley Community College on Friday, September 20 at 2:30 p.m. If the rainy conditions persist, the match will be played at Centre Court in Hanover Park. 

September 12 , 2013 – Spartans Top Chiefs – ECC improved its Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference record to 2-0 with a 6-3 win over Waubonsee Community College. Alina Patthana, Aida De La Fuente, Maria Morales-Nelson and Ellie Weber won for the Spartans at singles. Winning their doubles matches were the teams of Cristal Tinajero/Stacy Krach and De La Fuente/Weber.

The Spartans will be at home for their September 19 match against the College of Lake County. The match will begin at 2:45 p.m. 

September 10, 2013 – Spartans Defeat Scots – Playing in their first ISCC match of the young season, ECC defeated McHenry County College 7-2 today.  Winning their singles matches were Cassie McElroy, Stacy Krach, Maria Morales-Nelson and Alina Patthana.  ECC swept MCC in doubles with McElroy/Natalie Judkins, Krach/Cristal Tinajero and Ellie Weber/Aida De La Fuente each winning their match.

The Spartans will travel to Sugar Grove on Thursday, September 12 to take on conference opponent Waubonsee Community College. The match will begin at 2:45 p.m.

July 17, 2013 – Season Opener – The Spartans will open the 2013 season on the road when they play Rock Valley College on Friday, September 6. The match, in Rockford, will start at 3:00 p.m.  

October 26, 2012 – Spartans Named to All-Conference Team – Illinois Skyway Collegiate All-Conference Team honors were recently award to ECC’s #3 singles player Nicole Wahlborg and the #1 doubles team of June Lynch and Alejandra Ballester. Wahlborg went undefeated in her conference matches finishing with a perfect 5-0 record. Ballester and Lynch lost only one conference match going 4-1 for the season.  

October 7, 2012 – Region IV Tournament Results – Competing Friday and Saturday in the Region IV Tournament at Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, Illinois, ECC finished third (13 points) in a field of eight teams. The winner of the tournament was Moraine Valley Community College (18 points) and finishing second was Waubonsee Community College (15 points). The top three teams are invited to compete at the NJCAA Nationals in May, 2013 in Tucson, Arizona.

Four Spartans advanced to the finals in the tournament. Playing at the #1 singles position, ECC’s June Lynch lost to MVCC’s Nicole Selvaggio 1-6, 0-6. In the #5 singles slot, Stacy Krach was defeated by Rachel Bowen-Grant (MVCC) 6-4, 1-6, 0-1. Lynch and Ale Ballester, at #1 doubles, lost to MVCC’s team of Selvaggio/Binette 3-6, 6-3, 0-1, and Krach/Natalie Judkins, at #3 doubles, were defeated by MVCC’s Annerino/Armon 1-6, 2-6.

June Lynch received the tournament’s Sportsmanship Award which is determined by voting of the Region IV coaches.  

September 25, 2012 – Spartans Close Out Conference Season – In its final Skyway Conference match of the 2012 season, ECC defeated Oakton Community College 9-0. The win locked up a third place finish for the Spartans behind conference champion Moraine Valley Community College and second place Waubonsee Community College.

In its last match before the Region IV Tournament, ECC will take on the JV team of Judson University on Friday, September 28. The match will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Judson’s courts. 

June 25, 2012 – NJCAA All-Academic Team - The NJCAA announced its 2011-12 All-Academic Teams of the Year. Elgin Community College’s Women’s Tennis team was one of those to receive the honor. In order for a team to qualify for this award, it must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. The Spartans finished their academic year with a 3.05 GPA.

May 16, 2011 – NJCAA Nationals Results - The Spartans returned from Tucson, Arizona last Thursday after competing in the NJCAA Division I Nationals. The team finished a very respectable 23rd in a field of 31 teams in the tournament. This is the seventh year in a row that ECC has qualified to compete in the Nationals.

In singles play, #1 Singles player Lauren Ferry advanced to the consolation quarterfinals but was defeated by Vanessa Green from Glendale Community College. Jillian O’Brien, at #2 Singles, lost in the opening round to Kylie Pickel from Rend Lake College. Marlena Aleksiejczyk at #3 Singles won her opening match 6-2, 6-0 against Chelsea Sudduth from Itawamba Community College but lost in the Round of 16. Dally Senesombath, ECC’s #4 Singles player, lost her match in the opening round, but advanced to the consolation finals where she was defeated by Jennifer Black of Snead State 8-2. The Spartans’ #5 Singles player, Yessenia Mejia, advanced to the consolation quarterfinals where Eastern Arizona College’s Rachel Clarke won 8-2.

In doubles, ECC’s #1 Doubles team of Lauren Ferry and Yessenia Mejia lost their opening round and the consolation second round. The #2 Doubles team of Aleksiejczyk and Dally Senesombath won their opening match against Oklahoma Seminole State College (6-1, 4-6, 6-3), but were defeated by their Lee College counterparts in the Round of 16.

May 11, 2011 - Spartan Reaches Nationals Consolation Finals - ECC’s Dally Senesombath, the Spartans #4 singles player at the NJCAA Women’s Tennis National Championship, has advanced to the consolation finals round. Her match against Jennifer Black from Snead State Community College (Boaz, Alabama) will be played tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. MST.

October 2, 2010 - Region IV Champs! - For the third year in a row, the ECC women's tennis team won the Region IV championship.  Just as impressive is the fact that this marks the seventh year in a row that ECC has qualified for the NJCAA Nationals. The competition was fierce at the Region IV Tournament with three teams in the hunt for the title on the final day. The Spartans came out on top though by edging out Waubonsee Community College by one point and the College of Lake County by two points.

Earning All-Region First Team honors by winning the championship match were Spartans Marlena Aleksiejczyk (#3 Singles), Maria Ballester (#4 Singles) and the #2 Doubles team of Dally Senesombath and Marlena Aleksiejczyk. Spartans who advanced to the championship match but lost were Klaudia Kulpa (#2 Singles) and the doubles team of Maria Ballester and Yessi Mejia (#3 Doubles). ECC's Clark Hallpike was named the Region IV Coach of the Year.

With the Region IV title in hand, the Spartans will travel to Tucson, Arizona to compete in the NJCAA National Championship May 6-13, 2011.

September 24, 2010 - Skyway Conference Co-Champs! - The ISCC championship came down to the last conference match of the season for three teams, and ECC and Waubonsee Community College prevailed. Both teams finished with 3-1 records and will share the title.   Congratulations to Marlena Aleksiejczyk, Maria Ballester, Lauren Ferry, Klaudia Kulpa, Yessenia Mejia, Jillian O’Brien and Dally Senesombath, head coach Clark Hallpike and assistant coach Karen Rauh for bringing home the third consecutive ISCC championship to ECC.

May 17, 2010 - ECC Coaches Receive Region Award - Recognized for their teams going undefeated in conference and regional play in 2008 and 2009, Elgin Community College head coach Clark Hallpike and his assistant coach, Karen Rauh, received the Midwest Region Women's Tennis Head Coach of the Year and Women's Tennis Assistant Coach of the Year awards respectively. The awards were presented at the recently held NJCAA Division I Women's Tennis National Championship in Tucson, Arizona.

May 7, 2010 - NJCAA National Results - Against the top women's tennis talent in the NJCAA Division I ranks, the Spartans finished a very respectable 23rd in a field of 31 teams at the championship tournament held in Tucson, Arizona. Earning points for ECC in the first round of competition was Megan Joyce at #4 singles who defeated Rebecca Rogers from Jones County Community College 6-4, 6-4. Joyce was then defeated in the next round by Francesca Bassoo from Lee College 6-1, 6-2. The #2 doubles team of Lauren Ferry and Megan Joyce also earned points by defeating Agnes Burke and Julie Vuncannon from Harford Community College 6-2, 1-6, and 7-6(3).  Ferry and Joyce lost in the next round to Margarita Aheychenko and Simona Mrazova from Institute ASA 6-0, 6-1.

In singles matches, Spartans Rebekah Hegel (#1 singles), Rachel Hegel (#2 singles), Marlena Aleksiejczyk (#3 singles), Dally Senesombath (#5 singles) and Lauren Ferry (#6 singles) each lost in the first round as did the doubles teams of Hegel/Hegel (#1 doubles) and Aleksiejczyk/Senesombath (#3 doubles). October 3, 2009 - Region Champs! - Because of rain, the Region IV Tournament was played at the indoor courts of the Evergreen Bath and Tennis Club and the Oak Lawn Tennis Club yesterday and today. Competing indoors or outdoors made no difference to the Spartans. The Region IV title was theirs. In the seven team field, ECC earned a total of 22 points which was 7 points better than runner up Waubonsee Community College's totals. Claiming the Region IV championship also qualifies ECC to compete at the NJCAA National Championship in May, 2010 in Tucson, Arizona.

Winning in the finals of the singles matches and earning All-Region First Team honors were Rachel Hegel (#2 Singles - 7-6, 6-4), Megan Joyce (#4 Singles - 6-2, 7-5), Dally Senesombath (#5 Singles - 6-2, 6-4), and Lauren Ferry (#6 Singles - 6-0, 6-0). Doubles champions, and also named to the All-Region First Team, were Rebekah Hegel and Rachel Hegel (#1 Doubles - 6-3, 6-1) and Marlena Aleksiejczyk and Dally Senesombath (#3 Doubles - 6-3, 6-4). Head coach Clark Hallpike was named the Region IV Women's Tennis Coach of the Year.

This marked the second year in a row that the Spartans went undefeated in dual matches and won both the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference and Region IV Tournament titles.

September 28, 2009 - Perfect - With their 5-4 win over the College of DuPage today, the Spartans went undefeated in their regular season matches for the second year in a row. Congratulations to returning sophomores Dana Altieri, Rachel Hegel, Rebekah Hegel, and Megan Joyce, freshmen Marlena Aleksiejczyk, Lauren Ferry and Dally Senesombath and head coach Clark Hallpike and assistant coach Karen Rauh on this wonderful accomplishment!

The Spartans won't get too caught up in enjoying their 11-0 regular season as the post season is just around the corner. The Region IV Tournament begins this Friday at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills. The teams that finish in 1st and 2nd place in the two day tournament qualify for the NJCAA Nationals, and finishing first is one of ECC's ultimate goals.

September 23, 2009 - Conference Champs! Making it official, the Spartans defeated Moraine Valley Community College 8-1 yesterday thereby claiming the ISCC title as their own. The win gave ECC a perfect 5-0 record in conference and continued their win streak at 9 matches in a row.

As a tune-up for the Region IV Tournament, the Spartans will play North Central College in Naperville on Thursday, September 24 and then the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn on Monday, September 28.
