February 14, 2014 - Softball Season Cancelled - With the season just around the corner and not having a sufficient number of players, Elgin Community College's athletic director Kent Payne made the decision not to field a women's softball team this spring. Those student-athletes who were to be a part of the 2014 season will workout in preparation for 2015, and head coach Jordan Smith will be busy on the recruiting trail.

August 28, 2013 – Tryouts – An open tryout will be held on Friday, September 13 from 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. in the Elgin Community College Events Center (Building J), Gyms A and B, for anyone interested in playing for the ECC women’s softball team for the 2014 spring season. July 8, 2013 - ECC Hires New Softball Coach - Elgin Community College has hired Jordan Smith as its new women’s softball coach. Jordan comes to ECC with a wealth of experience. The former assistant softball coach at Lake Forest College brings an exciting style of play to the program. Jordan is involved in coaching with the Wasco Diamonds Softball organization that is very successful nationally on the travel softball circuit.
“We are excited to have Jordan Smith as our new softball coach,” said ECC’s athletic director Kent Payne. “He went to St. Charles North High School, Loyola University and has excellent ties with our in-district high schools. Jordan is a student of the game and teaches the game exceptionally well. He believes in the community college experience of bringing athletics and competitive softball to an elite level.”
May 7, 2013 – Post Season Honors – Three of ECC’s women softball players were recognized for their top notch performances this season on the field. Sophomore center fielder Corinne Wimmer was named to the Region IV All-Region First Team and the Illinois Skyway Collegiate All-Conference First Team. Freshman pitcher/shortstop/outfielder Tarah Rayos earned ISCC All-Conference First Team honors as did freshman catcher/third baseman/first baseman Amber Smith.
Wimmer, for the season, hit .394 with four doubles, four triples, and was a speedster on the bases going 29-for-32 in stolen base attempts. In 35 games, she made only four errors.
Rayos was extremely effective in several roles. As a pitcher, she was 4-6 with two saves, 101 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.50. As a hitter, she ended the season with a .327 batting average. For 2013, Rayos totaled two doubles, two triples, one homer, 15 RBI’s and 12 stolen bases.
Smith was the Spartans’ power hitter accumulating 17 doubles, two triples, and two home runs. She led the team in RBI’s with 23 and finished the season with a .355 batting average. Smith also led the team in fielding percentage with a .926.
April 30, 2013 – Region Tournament Results – In the quarterfinal round of the Region IV Tournament, ECC, the
#6 seed, faced #3 seed Sauk Valley Community College today in Dixon. In the best of three format, Sauk Valley put an end to the Spartans’ season with 7-1 and 6-0 wins.
Tarah Rayos took the loss in the first game going five innings with six strikeouts, one walk, and seven runs of which three were earned. The Spartans were able to muster six hits, two of which were doubles, but could only score one run.
In the second game, the ECC bats were quieted by Sauk Valley’s pitching. The Spartans had three hits, all singles. Rachel DePouw was charged with the loss. DePouw pitched two innings, giving up three runs, one of which was earned, on five hits and three walks.
April 29, 2013 – Region IV Tournament - At the women’s softball Region IV meeting yesterday, the scheduling was determined for the quarterfinal round for the Region IV Tournament. ECC will open against Sauk Valley Community College at Dixon on Tuesday, April 30 with the first pitch to be at 1:00 p.m. In a best of three format, the winner will advance to the semi-final round on Friday, May 3. The two teams last faced each other on April 20 with Sauk Valley defeating ECC 6-3 and 3-2.
June 25, 2012 – NJCAA All-Academic Team - The NJCAA announced its 2011-12 All-Academic Teams of the Year. Elgin Community College’s Women’s Softball team was one of those to receive the honor. In order for a team to qualify for this award, it must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. The Spartans finished their academic year with a 3.22 GPA.
May 8, 2012 – All-Region and All-Conference Teams Announced – Spartan shortstop Ashley Scheffler was one of ten women’s softball players in Region IV District A Division II who were named to the All-Region Team. The Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference women's softball coaches also recognized the solid season Scheffler had and named her to the ISCC All-Conference First Team. Scheffler, a sophomore, finished the season with a batting average of .463, an on-base percentage of .507 and a fielding percentage of .944.
April 13, 2012 – Jordan Throws Perfect Game – While yesterday’s first game against Morton College resulted in an 11-3 loss for ECC, the second game had much brighter results. Spartan pitcher Jennifer Jordan threw a perfect game in the 8-0 win for ECC. Jordan struck out five batters and gave up no walks in her five inning stellar performance on the mound.
Providing the offensive punch at the plate for the Spartans were Ashley Scheffler (2 hits, 1 double, 3 RBI’s) and Gabriella Moe (2 hits, 1 double, 2 RBI’s). Four Spartans went 2-for-3 in the victory; Scheffler, Samantha King, Moe and Whitney Carranza.
June 1, 2011 – All-Conference Team Named – The Spartans have three representatives on the 2011 Illinois Skyway Collegiate All-Conference First Team; Courtney Bosteder, Rae Bosteder and Ashley Scheffler.
Scheffler, the team’s third baseman, led the Spartans in batting (.440), hits (51), on base percentage (.484), runs scored (29), and triples (2). She also earned Region IV All-Region First Team honors.
Rae Bosteder, who played first base, hit .343 with 24 RBI’s, and showed power with 5 home runs and 8 doubles. She was errorless in the field in 230 chances.
At second base, Courtney Bosteder batted .272 and ended the season with two homers, 6 doubles, and 19 RBI’s.
May 9, 2011 – Spartan Named to All-Region Team – ECC’s Ashley Scheffler was named to the 2011 Region IV Division II District A All-Region First Team. Scheffler, the Spartans’ shortstop, led the team’s starters in hitting (.440) and on base percentage (.484). She was just as solid in the field ending the season with a fielding percentage of .952.
May 14, 2010 - The Region IV All-Region team was announced today, and Spartans Mackenzie Scott and Barb Posinger earned First and Second Team honors respectively. Scott, ECC's top pitcher, had an outstanding season striking out 350 batters in 32 games pitched, and ended the year with a 1.22 ERA. Posinger, the Spartans' shortstop, batted .396 and was solid in the field.
May 14, 2010 - ECC sophomores Barb Posinger and Sophie Sterricker were recognized for the strong season each had by being named to the NJCAA Region IV Sophomore All-Star Team. The team consists of the best sophomore players from 15 community colleges in the Region IV area. The All-Star game will be played on Sunday, May 16 at Ruby Field in Melrose Park with the first pitch at 6:00 p.m.
May 12, 2010 - The Illinois Skyway Collegiate All-Conference Team was named on Monday, and the Spartans had five players honored. Mackenzie Scott, in addition to being named to the ISCC First Team, was named the ISCC Softball Pitcher of the Year. Scott's statistics are impressive. Nationally, she is ranked #1 in the NJCAA DII Strike Out Leader category with 350 K's in 32 games and is 14th in NJCAA DII Individual Pitching with an ERA of 1.22.
Joining Scott on the ISCC First Team were teammates Layla Ismajlaj and Barb Posinger. Ismajlaj ended the season with a .361 batting average. She led the Spartans in doubles (16) and RBI's (29). Posinger, the team's shortstop, batted a team-high .396 with 26 RBI's and 15 doubles.
ISCC Second Team honors went to freshman catcher Nina Barrutia and sophomore outfielder Sophie Sterricker. Barrutia was error free behind the plate and batted .302 with 15 RBI's. Sterricker hit a solid .288 with 26 RBI's.
