November 9, 2013 – Spartan Sets PR at Nationals – Running in the NJCAA Division I National Cross Country Championships at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge, Iowa, ECC’s Carolyn Schneider finished the 5K race in 20:18.0. This time not only represented Schneider’s personal record for the season but placed her at a very respectable 83rd in the field of 281 runners who were from throughout the country.

Teammate Lupe Machuca came very close to finishing in the top half of the field. Her time of 21:06.7 was good for 143rd in the race. 

November 2, 2013 – Spartans Going to Nationals – At the Region IV meet, hosted by Joliet Junior College, ECC’s Carolyn Schneider qualified for the NJCAA Division I National Championship. Schneider’s 21:16 in the 5K race placed her 13th in the field of 51 runners. Because of having finished in the top 15 runners, Schneider was named to the Region IV All-Region Team. Teammate Lupe Machuca, who came in 19th with a time of 22:09, will also compete at the NJCAA Nationals.

The Nationals, hosted by Iowa Central Community College, are to be held on Saturday, November 9 at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The women’s race will begin at noon. 

October 26, 2013 – Skyway Meet Results – At the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference meet, two of the three Spartans finished in the top 10 thereby earning ISCC All-Conference Team honors. In the field of 37 runners, Carolyn Schneider came in eighth with a time of 21:37.8 and teammate Lupe Machuca finished ninth, right behind Schneider, with a time of 21:40.0. The Spartans’ third runner, Jasmine Williams, completed the course in a time of 25:39.3.

On Saturday, November 2, the team will travel to Community Park in Channahon, Illinois to compete in the Region IV Championship meet. The top 15 runners in this race will earn a trip to the NJCAA Nationals held on November 9 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. 

October 22, 2013 – Skyway Meet – Despite not having the numbers to field a complete team, the Spartans will be going full out at the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference meet. The race will be held on Saturday, October 26 at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills. The women’s 5K will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the men’s 8K will start at 10:45 a.m. The top 10 finishers in each of the races will be named to the 2013 ISCC All-Conference Team. 

September 27, 2013 – College of DuPage Invitational Results – The Spartans, competing against some of the bigger colleges in the Midwest, finished with some very solid times at the College of DuPage Invitational.  The 5K race was run at the scenic St. James Farm Forest Preserve in Warrenville.  In a field of 167 runners, ECC’s Taylor Crawford finished 31st (20:49.5), Guadalupe Machuca was 59th (22:14.1) and Carolyn Schneider was 62nd (22:18.4).

The Spartans next race will be at the Sauk Valley Community College Invitational in Dixon on Saturday, October 19. The 5K race will begin at 10:30 a.m. 

September 13, 2013 – Illinois Intercollegiate Results – In a field of 165 runners at the Illinois Intercollegiate Cross Country Championship, ECC’s Taylor Crawford, Carolyn Schneider, Guadalupe Machuca and Jasmine Williams finished 58th, 103rd, 112th and 137th respectively.  In the 5K race hosted by Olivet Nazarene University at the Aspen Ridge Golf Course, Crawford ran a 20:09.5, Schneider a 21:36.4, Machuca a 22:10.8 and Williams a 23:41.6.

The Spartans next meet will be on Friday, September 27 when they compete in the 2nd Annual College of DuPage Invitational. The race, which will begin at 4:00 p.m., will be held at the St. James Farm Forest Preserve in Warrenville, Illinois. 

September 9, 2013 – Illinois Intercollegiate Cross Country Championship – The Spartans will be headed to Bourbonnais, Illinois on Friday, September 13 to compete in the Illinois Intercollegiate Cross Country Championship. The meet, hosted by Olivet Nazarene University, will be held at the Aspen Ridge Golf Course in Bourbonnais. Aspen Ridge is primarily a flat course with gentle inclines. The women’s 5K race will begin at 5:00 p.m. and the men’s 8K at 5:45 p.m. 

September 6, 2013 – Cross Country Classic – The Spartans will travel to Aurora today to compete in the Aurora University Spartan XC Classic. The race will be held at the Oakhurst Forest Preserve which features a course that is flat and runs through wooded trails and around a lake. The women’s race begins at 5:00 p.m. and the men’s at 5:45 p.m. 

July 17, 2013 – Season Opener – The Spartans will open the 2013 season at Waubonsee Community College’s Chiefs Invitational on Saturday, August 31 at Waubonsee's campus in Sugar Grove. The women’s 5K race will begin at 10:00 a.m.  

November 10, 2012 – NJCAA National Championship Results – The NJCAA Women’s Division I Cross Country Championship was held today at Rend Lake Golf Course in Whittington, Illinois. Hosted by Rend Lake College, the 5K race was held in fairly favorable weather conditions; partly sunny with the temperature in the low 70’s but with strong winds. Running against the top community college women athletes in the nation, ECC’s Christina Luptak finished with a very competitive time of 19:29.7 good for 29th in the field of 295 runners. Teammate Taylor Crawford, with her time of 21:05.1, finished in 117th place.

October 27, 2012 – Spartans Qualify for Nationals – Running in today’s Region IV Tournament meet at Sauk Valley Community College, ECC’s Christina Luptak and Taylor Crawford both qualified for the NJCAA National Championship race and received Region IV All-Region Team honors. Luptak finished third in the field of 58 with a time of 19:55.24, and Crawford finished fifth at 20:13.10. The Spartans, as a team, placed fourth out of seven teams.

The NJCAA National Championship race will be held on Saturday, November 10 at Rend Lake Golf Course in Whittington, Illinois. The women’s 5K race will begin at 10:00 a.m.  

October 20, 2012 – Spartans Take Third at ISCC Championship – At the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Women’s Cross Country championship meet at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, ECC took third place overall.

In the 5K race, Spartan Christina Luptak finished first in a field of 44 runners with a time of 19:37.6 and earned the 2012 ISCC Women’s Runner of the Year title. Teammate Taylor Crawford crossed the finish line at 20:48.8 good for seventh place. With their top 10 finishes, both Luptak and Crawford were named to the ISCC All-Conference Team. Coming in 13th was Heidi Zipoy (22:32.8), followed by Jasmine Williams (20th - 23:44.0), Shaifali Singh (21st - 24:10.7), and Gena Lukes (27th - 26:17.5).

The team will travel to Dixon, Illinois on Saturday, October 27 to compete in the Region IV Championship at Sauk Valley Community College. The Spartans have their sights set on qualifying for the NJCAA National Championship meet held on November 10 at Rend Lake College in Ina, Illinois.

October 13, 2012 – Sauk Invitational Results – The Spartans ran a very solid race, finishing third in a field of 10 teams at the Sauk Valley Community College Cross Country Invitational in Dixon, Illinois. At the 5K race, run on Sauk Valley’s campus, Christina Luptak led the way for ECC with a time of 19:33, good for fifth out of 77 runners. Teammate Taylor Crawford missed finishing in the top 10 by 12 seconds coming in at 21:06. Coming in after Crawford were teammates Guadalupe Machuca (21:39 – 21st place), Heidi Zipoy (23:03 – 37th place), and Shaifali Singh (23:49 – 45th place). Spartan Jasmine Williams (25:09.15) edged teammate Valerie Essendrop (25:09.76) good for 60th and 61st place respectively. Genavieve Lukes rounded out the field for ECC finishing at 26:15 (64th place).

The Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference championship race will be held on Saturday, October 20 at the campus of Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills. The women’s 5K race will begin at 10:00 a.m. 

August 31, 2012 – Hawk Invitational Results – In their first meet of the season, the Spartans competed at the 9th Annual Hawk Invitational. The two mile run, hosted by Harper College, took place at Plum Grove Reservoir. Running on terrain that was mostly flat, the Spartans came in second. Christina Luptak, who was the second runner to cross the finish line, led the Spartans with a time of 12:34.

“The team got their feet wet at a small, short race,” said head coach Dan Schwarz. “They now know what improvements they need to get done for the season.”

Next up on the schedule is the Spartan Cross County Classic hosted by Aurora University. The 6k run will take place on Friday, September 7 at the Oakhurst Forest Preserve with the race beginning at 5:00 p.m. 

November 15, 2011 – NJCAA Nationals – Four Spartan runners, representatives of ECC's women's and men's cross country teams, made the long flight home yesterday from Hobbs, New Mexico, the site of the NJCAA Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Division I championship meets. The races, hosted by New Mexico Junior College, were held at the Ocotillo Golf Course in Hobbs with the men running a distance of 8K and the women 5K.

Running in unaccustomed conditions of dry, high desert air, ECC’s CJ Houlis ran an exceptional race finishing 34th in a field of 268 runners clocking in at 20:39. Teammate Christina Luptak was not far behind finishing 52nd with a time of 21:03. November 2, 2011 - Region IV Meet Results - It’s off to Hobbs, New Mexico for two members of ECC’s Cross Country Team. Competing at the Region IV meet last Saturday at Moraine Valley Community College, CJ Houlis and Christina Luptak qualified for the NJCAA National Championship.

In the Region IV 5K race, Houlis finished third (19:52) and Luptak fourth (20:06) in the field of 58 women and each earned a berth at the Nationals as well as All-Region Team honors. Teammates Valerie Essendrop finished 40th (24:12) and Genavieve Lukes came in 50th (25:52).

The NJCAA Nationals, hosted by New Mexico Junior College, will be run on Saturday, November 12 at the Ocotillo Golf Course in Hobbs. The women’s race will begin at 10:00 a.m.

October 24, 2011 – Skyway Conference Meet Results – Last Saturday’s Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference meet was held at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills with 35 runners competing in the 5K race. Spartans CJ Houlis’ time of 20:11 and Christina Luptak’s time of 20:31 were good for 3rd and 4th place finishes respectively and earned each runner an ISCC All-Conference Team award. Teammate Valerie Essendrop finished 20th (24:38) and Genavieve Lukes finished 27th (26:32).

The Spartans’ next meet will be the Region IV Championship at Moraine Valley Community College on Saturday, October 29. The women’s race will begin at approximately 11:00 a.m. The top 10 finishers qualify for the NJCAA National Championship to be held at New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, New Mexico on Saturday, November 12. 

September 3, 2011 – While the Spartans were unable to field a complete team at the Waubonsee Community College Chiefs Invitational, two of ECC’s runners had outstanding results. In the 5K run, CJ Houlis finished with a time of 19:59, good for 2nd place in the field of 24 runners. Right behind her was teammate Christina Luptak who finished 3rd at 20:03.

The next competition for ECC will be Aurora University’s Spartan Cross Country Classic on Friday, September 9. The race will be run at Oakhurst Forest Preserve with a start time of 5:00 p.m.

June 29, 2011 – National Academic Awards – The NJCAA announced the recipients for the 2010-11 Academic Student-Athlete Award, and Elgin Community College’s Tess Tyton was one of three ECC student-athletes to qualify for this prestigious honor. Tyton earned the NJCAA award for Exemplary Academic Achievement by having a GPA of 3.60-3.79 for five semesters of college work.

The NJCAA also announced its 2010-11 Academic Teams of the Year. Elgin Community College’s Women's Cross Country was one of those to receive the honor. In order for a team to qualify for this award, it must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. The ECC Women's Cross Country finished their academic year with a 3.38 GPA.
