Student Orientation

New College Student Orientation

All first-time college students must attend new student orientation prior to registering for classes. Once you have completed steps 1-3 listed below, you will be assigned an orientation date by the Admissions Office. These sessions are designed for the new student only. We strongly encourage parents/families to attend one of our parent/family orientations. If you have any questions contact the Admissions & Recruitment office.

  1. Submit a completed ECC application for admission. Apply now»
  2. Submit your high school and prior college (if applicable) transcripts. More»
  3. Demonstrate you have met ECC's minimum competency requirements in writing, reading and math. To determine which requirements you must meet, view minimum competency requirements

It is important you contact the Admissions & Recruitment office, if you need assistance completing steps 1-3 above.

Date & Place

Once you have completed steps 1-3 you will be assigned the earliest available orientation session. Sessions are offered April through August for new students starting at ECC in the fall semester and November through January for new students starting at the college in spring semester. Sessions take approximately five hours. During the session you will:

  • Gain an understanding of degree options;
    • course selection
    • how placement test scores effect those course options
  • Meet with a counselor to plan your fall semester courses
  • Navigate important ECC online tools
  • Receive your student ID
  • Locate and utilize ECC Student Services on our growing campus
  • Meet other new students as well as current ECC students and staff
  • Select and register for your first semester of classes

New students, who have attended another college/university or are attending to complete courses for personal interest only, are strongly encouraged to attend new student orientation.
