Music, Arts & Drama

Performance and exhibition opportunities abound at ECC. Come be a part of the arts. 

ECC Music Ensembles

  • The ECC Concert Band - open to all qualified college and high school students, and adults.
  • The ECC Concert Choir & Vocal Jazz Ensemble - performance repertoire of standard choral works as well as modern compositions.
  • The ECC Jazz Ensembles - develop knowledge and performance skills in swing, blues, jazz and rock music.
  • The ECC Steel Bands - perform calypso, soca, ska, or reggae with other high school or college students and adults.
  • ECC Theatre & Musical Theatre - stages two productions each per year, and auditions are open to all students and adults in the area.

In-Residence Ensembles

  • The Fox Valley Youth Theatre Company - open to students ages 15-20. Auditions are held throughout the year and open to the public.
  • The Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra - opportunities for upper elementary through college students among four ensembles.
  • Elgin Children’s Chorus - open to ages 8-16 to develop music reading skills, critical listening abilities and vocal skills.
  • Children’s Theatre of Elgin - provides instruction and training in theatre for children ages 7-15.
  • Hamilton Wings’ SCORE! (Students Creating Opera to Reinforce Education) - students ages 10-13 create and perform an original opera.
  • Ballet Folklórico Huehuecoyotl - teaches the beauty of Mexico’s traditional music and dance, and is open to children and adults.
  • The Elgin Choral Union - adult choral organization with membership of over 100 singers ages 17-75. Semi-annual auditions are held.

Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Jazz Festival

Student musicians and instrumentalists are centerstage at the annual Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Jazz Festival. Participating bands perform 30-minute, juried programs and attend master classes throughout the day. At night, the jury of clinicians perform followed by the bands in concert. An awards ceremony ends the evening.

Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Art Competition

Student art works are juried and exhibited during the annual Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Art Competition. Both two and three dimensional works are eligible for submission. Winners are chosen in five categories and receive certificates of recognition.
