Dental Assisting

ECC prepares students for an active role in their choice of dental assisting specialty through classroom, laboratory and clinical experiences. Highly trained dental professionals teach and supervise all on and off campus activities.

A clinical dental assistant works chairside, anticipating the needs of a dentist in intra-oral procedures like general dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, prosthetic, endodontic, orthodontic and pediatric dentistry. They also instruct patients concerning proper techniques of preventive dentistry. Students who graduate with the clinical certificate may take an examination to become a certified dental assistant (CDA). While it is not required for employment, certification is a special recognition for a high level of professional competence.

Dental assisting certificates in dental office aide and preclinical dental assisting lead to working credentials in only 16 weeks and offer built-in career ladders to the longer-term clinical dental assisting certificate.

Note: Criminal background checks and drug testing are required for all health professions programs. Students demonstrating a positive background check or positive drug test will be denied admission to health professions programs. Students demonstrating a positive background check or positive drug test while enrolled in health professions programs will be dismissed from the program.
