Payment FAQs

1. How long does it take for my bill to arrive?

Answer: Registration statements are sent via U.S. mail the next business day after you registered. However, your bill is always available at elgin.edu/portal. Do not wait for a bill. Your tuition will be due whether or not you have received your bill.

2. I cannot pay my entire bill at once. What options do I have?

Answer: We offer a payment plan for just this purpose. If you have at least $250 in eligible tuition and fee charges, you can set up a payment plan. There is a service fee of $25 to use a payment plan. More»

3. I don’t have a checking account or credit card. Now what?

Answer: Many banks offer no cost savings accounts. Simply set one up at the bank of your choice. Make sure to ask if it can be used for automatic drafts. Be sure to have the amount of your payment available on the payment draft date.

4. I prefer not to put my personal information on the Internet. What do you suggest?

Answer: Simply set up a savings account dedicated to your tuition only. Make sure you have enough funds in the account when the payment is due.

5. What happens if there is no money in my account on the due date?

Answer: If there are insufficient funds in your account on the scheduled due dates, A $25 fee will be charged to your account. You will be notified via email that the payment did not go through. You should contact Student Accounts at 847-214-7380 for further instructions.

All About Payment Plans

 

1. How do I set up a payment plan?

Answer: Payment plans are online only at elgin.edu/portal. More»

2. How do I make payments once I have the plan set up?

Answer: Your down payment will draft within 24 hours. Your monthly payments will be deducted out of your account automatically on the due date listed for the plan you chose. No action is required other than to make sure you have funds available in that account.

3. What if my credit card is lost or stolen?

Answer: You should change the Payment Method for future payments. Of course, you should have also contacted your credit card company.

4. What if I cannot access the payment plan from home or work or I do not own a computer?

Answer: Some computers have privacy or firewall settings that prohibit access to our payment plan, especially workplace computers. If you can’t access the payment plan, come to the ECC main campus where computers are always available:

  • M.-Th. from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. (or later if the library is open)
  • Fri. from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

5. What payment methods can I use for my payment plan?

Answer: The payment plan accepts American Express, Discover, Master Card and Visa credit cards. You may also draft payments automatically from your checking or savings account. (Accounts must be held at a U.S. bank.) If you are using your debit card, make sure to enter it as a credit card. They are both processed the same.

6. How do schedule changes affect my payment plan?

Answer: When you add a class(es), the new charges will spread evenly among your remaining payments. However, when you drop and add, the payment plan may be paid off. You should always check your payment plan after you make a schedule change. Be sure to contact Student Accounts if you have questions.
