ECC music ensembles present their winter concerts in December

Winter performances by the Elgin Community College Concert Choir, Concert Band, Steel Band and Jazz Combo offer something for everyone-from classic choral pieces to American favorites and rock hits to swingin' jazz. Performances take place at the ECC Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

ECC Steel Bands

“Soul of Steel”

The ECC Steel Bands, under the direction of Steve Butters, perform an eclectic mix of calypso, reggae, rock, and more. This winter's concert will feature several pieces including tunes from Prince, Taylor Swift, Phish, Radiohead, Beethoven, and many others.

When: Thursday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m.

Price:   $9 for adults and $7 for students and seniors

ECC Concert Band

“Holiday Traditions”

The ECC Concert Band's December concert, under the direction of Jim Kull, will feature holiday favorites including “Christmas Travelogue” by James Curnow (a medley of European carols), “3 Moods of Hanukkah” by Lennie Niehaus (which features traditional Hanukkah music set to advanced jazz harmonies), “Snow!” by John Moss (a musical depiction of a “snow day” from school), and Leroy Anderson's “Sleigh Ride” and “A Christmas Festival.”

When: Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Price:   $9 for adults and $7 for students and seniors

ECC Jazz Combo and ECC Concert Choir

“Fall Into Jazz”

The ECC Jazz Combo and ECC Concert Choir unite to present their winter concert! The ECC Jazz Combo, under the direction of Shawn Maxwell, will be performing music selections that include “The Chicken” by Alfred James Ellis, “St. Thomas” by Sonny Rollins, “Strike Up The Band” by George Gershwin, “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy” by Josef Zawinul, and “Bye Blackbird” by Ray Henderson.  Under the direction of Chris Cherry, the ECC Concert Choir will perform a wide breadth of choral music.

When: Thursday, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m.

Price:   $9 for adults and $7 for students and seniors

Tickets for all performances in the ECC Arts Center are available online at or at the ECC Arts Center box office located in Building H. Box office hours are noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday. To purchase tickets by phone, call 847-622-0300. All major credit cards are accepted. NOTE: ECC and the Box Office will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday from Wednesday, Nov. 23 through Sunday, Nov. 27.
