The Illinois Department of Public Health reports an increase in flu activity in October. This increase has been seen in both the H1N1 and seasonal flu varieties. H1N1 is now widespread in Illinois. The Illinois Department of Public Health has a flu hotline available from 6AM until 10PM 7 days a week, to answer any questions concerning the flu. The numbers are:
- English: 866-848-2094
- Spanish: 866-241-2138
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the following actions be taken in order to protect oneself from getting the flu:
- Seasonal flu vaccination
- H1N1 flu vaccination
- Practice the three C's: Cover, Clean and Contain
The Kane County Health Department has a schedule of H1N1 vaccination clinics set up. These clinics are NO COST-NO APPOINTMENT. You may find the schedule and locations at www.kanehealth.com.
Additionally, www.flu.gov provides a wealth of information on the influenza. They even offer a self-evaluation test for the H1N1. Keep in mind, this self-evaluation does not take the place of an evaluation and treatment by a professional healthcare provider and should not be used as a substitute for medical diagnosis.
