April 26, 2014 – Region IV Tournament Results – Qualifying for the NJCAA Nationals has become somewhat of a habit for the ECC men’s tennis team.  In the last 10 years, they have gone to Nationals five times. Sadly, this year’s Spartan team will not be making the trip to Texas.  With no ECC players reaching the Region IV Tournament championship round, the team finished 9th in a field of 10 teams.

April 18, 2014 – Spartans Clip Skyhawks – Playing their last dual match of the regular season, ECC got a resounding 9-0 win over Sauk Valley Community College.  Earning victories in singles for the Spartans were Teddy Lazopoulos (6-0, 6-2), Dylan Keeling (6-0, 6-1), Jordan Altieri (6-0, 6-1), Tommy Wicker (6-0, 6-1), Sam Brosier (6-3, 6-3) and Juan Yanez (6-2, 6-4). Getting the win in doubles for ECC were Lazpoulos/Keeling (6-2, 6-1), Altieri/Wicker (6-0, 6-1) and Toby Xayakham/Alejandro Molina (6-2, 6-0).

It’s on to post season play for the Spartans as they will compete in the Region IV Tournament at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills on April 24-26. The teams who finish either first or second in the tournament will qualify for the NJCAA Nationals which will be held May 11-16 in Plano, Texas. 

April 17, 2014 – Advantage Spartans – The ECC Men’s Tennis team completed the Skyway Conference season on a positive note by defeating McHenry County College 7-2. The win gave the Spartans a final record of 3-3 in the Skyway.

Match win in singles were achieved by ECC’s Dylan Keeling (7-6, 6-4), Jordan Altieri (7-5, 3-6, 10-2), Tommy Wicker (6-2, 7-6), and Toby Xayakham (6-1, 6-2). The Spartans swept the doubles matches with the teams of Teddy Lazopoulos/Keeling, Altieri/Wicker and Xayakham/Alejandro Molina each getting the win.

The Spartans will compete in their final match of the regular season on Friday, April 18. They will face Sauk Valley Community College at 1:00 p.m. Weather permitting, the match will be held at Judson University’s tennis courts. If the teams are unable to play outdoors, they will play at Centre Court in Hanover Park. 

April 13, 2014 – Spartans Edge Raiders – After the six singles matches, ECC and Oakton Community College found themselves in a 3-3 tie.  It would be up to the Spartans’ doubles teams to pull out the win, and they did just that by taking two out of the three matches.  Winning in singles for ECC were Jordan Altieri, Tommy Wicker and Juan Yanez. The doubles team wins by Altieri/Wicker and Toby Xayakham/ Alejandro Molina put the Spartans over the top.

An away match against the College of Lake County is next up on the schedule for ECC. This match will be held on Tuesday, April 15 in Grayslake, and will begin at 2:45 p.m.  

April 8, 2014 - Chaparrals Down Spartans – It was a tough afternoon in Glen Ellyn for the ECC men’s tennis team. Facing the College of DuPage, the Spartans were defeated 7-2. The lone singles’ win for ECC came courtesy of Juan Yanez, a freshman from Streamwood. The #3 doubles team of Toby Xayakham, from Hampshire, and Sam Brosier, from Elgin, gave ECC their other match win.

The Spartans will try to get back on track when they take on Prairie State College on Thursday, April 10 at 2:45 p.m.  Weather permitting, the match will be played at Judson University’s courts in Elgin.  If the match can’t be played outside, the two teams will compete at Centre Court in Hanover Park. 

April 4, 2014 – Conference Win – The Spartans got their first Skyway Conference win of the very young season by defeating Waubonsee Community College 6-3. The match, which was played on indoor courts, featured wins in singles by ECC’s Teddy Lazopoulos, Dylan Keeling, Jordan Altieri, and Tommy Wicker. In doubles, the Spartan teams of Lazopoulos/Keeling and Wicker/Altieri came out on top over the Chiefs.

Next up for the team is a non-conference match against the College of DuPage on Tuesday, April 8 at 3:00 p.m. in Glen Ellyn. 

February 4, 2014 - Season Opener - The Spartans will open the 2014 season with a match at Judson University against Judson's JV team on March 15 at 12:00 p.m. 

May 17, 2013 – NJCAA National Results – The ECC men’s tennis team returned home yesterday from the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in Plano, Texas with some very satisfying results. Although each Spartan singles player and doubles team lost their opening match, three players did well in the consolation rounds.

Ronald Pan (#1 Singles), Christian De La Cruz (#2 Singles) and Colin Ferry (#3 Singles) each advanced to the semifinal round in the consolation bracket. In the quarterfinal round, Pan defeated Kevin Millet (Meridian Community College, MS) 6-1, 6-3. De La Cruz won his match against Dylan Clark (McHenry County College, IL) 6-2, 6-2, and Ferry advanced via a default against Daniel Alonte (Seward County Community College, KS). Because of rain delays playing havoc with the schedule and travel arrangements, the three were unable to compete in the semifinal round. 

April 27, 2013 – Spartans Qualify for Nationals – ECC had a solid performance at this weekend’s Region IV Tournament with four players advancing to the championship rounds. In the nine team field, the Spartans finished second just two points behind winner Prairie State College.

In singles, Ronald Pan defeated McHenry County’s Matt Miller at #1 Singles 7-5, 5-7, 10-7. Pan was named the tournament MVP and earned All-Region First Team honors. Christian Dela Cruz won at #2 Singles defeating Oakton’s Josh Sawyer 6-1, 6-3. Cruz, with the victory, was named to the Region IV All-Region First Team. Syed Basit, in the #4 Singles slot, lost a close match to Kodie Hayes of Prairie State 2-6, 6-2, 9-11.

In the doubles’ championship matches, the #1 team of Pan/Cruz lost 4-6, 3-6 to McHenry County’s Clark/Miller. Colin Ferry and Syed Basit were defeated by Prairie State’s Villegas/Carter 6-7, 3-6.

With the Spartans finishing second at the Regionals, they qualify to compete at the NJCAA Division I National Championship. The tournament is hosted by Collin College in Plano, Texas and will run from May 12-17. 

April 30, 2012 – Region IV Tournament Results – Competing in the Region IV Division I Tournament this past Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Palos Hills, ECC earned two points good for a sixth place finish in a field of nine teams. Spartans Colin Ferry and Chris West had the most success of the team advancing to the semifinal bracket in #1 Singles and #6 Singles respectively.

Moraine Valley Community College earned the region title with 19 points followed by the College of DuPage (15 points) and Oakton Community College (11 points). Each of these teams qualify for the NJCAA National Championship tournament which is to be held in Plano, Texas in mid-May. 

ECC finished the season with a dual match record of 4-6 and an Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference record of 2-4.
