Dean is going into his tenth year as the head coach at Elgin Community College. He brings with him an in-depth knowledge of the game and a tremendous enthusiasm for the position. The 2004 season was a successful one with the men's team winning the Skyway Conference title. Coach Smith's teams play, and will continue to play, a possession based game where every player must be dynamic with their movement and technically efficient.

After a professional playing career in England, Dean pursued a coaching career. His coaching qualifications range from an F.A. Coaching Certificate, a USSF B License, a NSCAA National GK Diploma and an NSCAA National & Advanced National Diploma. Dean attended College at Shrewsbury College of Arts & Technology in England. Dean is a director of coaching at a soccer association in the northwest suburbs of Chicago and runs his own sports programs. He continues to play soccer with the Chicago Vikings in the Metro League.

As a former college soccer player and qualified coach with over eight years of professional experience, Coach Simpson is a firm believer of allowing “the game to be the teacher”.  Simpson states "whilst mistakes in the sport of soccer can and will be made by both players and coaches, it is from these mistakes that we can learn and develop to enhance both our knowledge and experience of the game itself". He holds an NSCAA National Diploma (distinguished pass), played semi-professional and collegiate level soccer, and currently works for  the Bartlett Travel Soccer Club as the Assistant Coaching Director. "As I continue my coaching education, I’d like to thank Elgin Community College and Coach Smith for providing me with the opportunity to further my coaching career, whilst assisting with the continued development of the men’s soccer program at Elgin Community College."
