November 2, 2013 – Region IV Meet Results – Running in the Region IV Meet hosted by Joliet Junior College at Community Park, ECC’s Peter Lennard missed qualifying for the NJCAA Nationals by 24 seconds. With the top 15 runners slated to go to the Nationals, his time of 29:00 in the 8K race was good for 20th place in the field of 63 competitors. Teammate Cristian Martinez completed the course in 29:49, placing 29th.  

October 26, 2013 – Skyway Meet Results – At the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference meet, Spartans Peter Lennard and Cristian Martinez each finished among the top 20 runners.  In the field of 42 competitors, Lennard came in 13th with a time of 29:36.5 while teammate Martinez finished 18th, with a time of 30:07.9.

On Saturday, November 2, the team will travel to Community Park in Channahon, Illinois to compete in the Region IV Championship meet. The top 15 runners in this race will earn a trip to the NJCAA Nationals held on November 9 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. 

October 22, 2013 – Skyway Meet – Despite not having the numbers to field a complete team, the Spartans will be going full out at the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference meet. The race will be held on Saturday, October 26 at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills. The women’s 5K will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the men’s 8K will start at 10:45 a.m. The top 10 finishers in each of the races will be named to the 2013 ISCC All-Conference Team. 

September 27, 2013 – College of DuPage Invitational Results – The Spartans competed against some of the bigger colleges in the midwest at the College of DuPage Invitational.  The 8K race was run at the scenic St. James Farm Forest Preserve in Warrenville.  In a field of 200 runners, ECC’s Peter Lennard finished 105th (29:35.5) and Cristian Martinez was 129th (30:28.5).

The Spartans next race will be at the Sauk Valley Community College Invitational in Dixon on Saturday, October 19. The 8K race will begin at 11:15 a.m. 

September 13, 2013 – Illinois Intercollegiate Results – In a field of 189 runners at the Illinois Intercollegiate Cross Country Championship, ECC’s Peter Lennard and Cristian Martinez finished 138th and 142nd respectively.  In the 8K race hosted by Olivet Nazarene University at the Aspen Ridge Golf Course, Lennard ran a 29:19.8 and Martinez a 29:34.5.

The Spartans next meet will be on Friday, September 27 when they compete in the 2nd Annual College of DuPage Invitational. The race, which will begin at 4:45 p.m., will be held at the St. James Farm Forest Preserve in Warrenville, Illinois.

September 9, 2013 – Illinois Intercollegiate Cross Country Championship – The Spartans will be headed to Bourbonnais, Illinois on Friday, September 13 to compete in the Illinois Intercollegiate Cross Country Championship. The meet, hosted by Olivet Nazarene University, will be held at the Aspen Ridge Golf Course in Bourbonnais. Aspen Ridge is primarily a flat course with gentle inclines. The women’s 5K race will begin at 5:00 p.m. and the men’s 8K at 5:45 p.m. 

September 6, 2013 – Cross Country Classic – The Spartans will travel to Aurora today to compete in the Aurora University Spartan XC Classic. The race will be held at the Oakhurst Forest Preserve which features a course that is flat and runs through wooded trails and around a lake. The women’s race begins at 5:00 p.m. and the men’s at 5:45 p.m. 

July 17, 2013 – Season Opener – The Spartans will open the 2013 season at Waubonsee Community College’s Chiefs Invitational on Saturday, August 31 at Waubonsee's campus in Sugar Grove. The men’s 8K race will begin at 10:45 a.m. 

November 10, 2012 – NJCAA National Championship Results – The NJCAA Men’s Division I Cross Country Championship was held today at Rend Lake Golf Course in Whittington, Illinois. Hosted by Rend Lake College, the 8K race was held in fairly favorable weather conditions; partly sunny with the temperature in the low 70’s but with strong winds. Running against the top community college male athletes in the nation, ECC’s Ryan Saylor finished with a time of 29:37.9 good for 173rd in the field of 280 runners. Teammate Pete Lennard, with his time of 30:27.2, finished in 221st place. 

October 27, 2012 – Spartan Qualifies for Nationals – Running in today’s Region IV Tournament meet at Sauk Valley Community College, ECC’s Ryan Saylor qualified for the NJCAA National Championship race and received Region IV All-Region Team honors. Saylor finished 15th in the field of 63 with a time of 28:22.87. The Spartans, as a team, placed fifth out of nine teams.

The NJCAA National Championship race will be held on Saturday, November 10 at Rend Lake Golf Course in Whittington, Illinois. The men’s 8K race will begin at 11:00 a.m.  

October 20, 2012 – Spartans Take Third at ISCC Championship – At the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Men’s Cross Country championship meet held at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, ECC took third place overall.

In the 8K race, Ryan Saylor led the way for the Spartans finishing ninth (27:46.6) in a field of 46 runners. With Saylor finishing in the top 10, he earned ISCC All-Conference First Team honors. Teammate Pete Lennard came in 16th (28:40.4) followed by Matt Swanson (17th – 29:05.7), Will Evans (19th – 29:15.4), Peter Heckenberg (26th – 29:54.1), and Dillon Muscat (28th – 30:06.8).

The team will travel to Dixon, Illinois on Saturday, October 27 to compete in the Region IV Championship at Sauk Valley Community College. The Spartans have their sights set on qualifying for the NJCAA National Championship meet held on November 10 at Rend Lake College in Ina, Illinois. 

November 15, 2011 – NJCAA Nationals – Four Spartan runners, the representatives of ECC's men's and women's cross country teams, made the long flight home yesterday from Hobbs, New Mexico, the site of the NJCAA Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Division I championship meets. The races, hosted by New Mexico Junior College, were held at the Ocotillo Golf Course in Hobbs with the men running a distance of 8K and the women 5K.

Running in unaccustomed conditions of dry, high desert air, ECC’s Dan Guimon finished 145th in a field of 288 runners clocking in at 29:44. Teammate Ryan Saylor finished 176th with a time of 30:09. November 2, 2011 - Region IV Meet Results - It’s off to Hobbs, New Mexico for two members of ECC’s Cross Country Team. Competing at the Region IV meet last Saturday at Moraine Valley Community College, Dan Guimon and Ryan Saylor qualified for the NJCAA National Championship.

With 76 runners competing in the men’s 8K race, Dan Guimon finished with a 27:13 good for 7th place and Ryan Saylor came in with a 28:10 at 17th place. Both Spartans thereby qualified for the Nationals, and Guimon, with his top 10 finish, was named to the Region IV All-Region Team.

Teammates Matt Swanson finished 18th (28:23), William Evans was 45th (30:33), Peter Heckenberg was 54th (31:33), and Steve Pedone finished 65th (34:35). As a team, the Spartans finished in 6th place.

The NJCAA Nationals, hosted by New Mexico Junior College, will be run on Saturday, November 12 at the Ocotillo Golf Course in Hobbs. The men’s race will begin at 11:00 a.m.

June 29, 2011 – National Academic Awards – The NJCAA announced the recipients for the 2010-11 Academic Student-Athlete Award, and Elgin Community College’s Seth Essendrop was one of three ECC student-athletes to qualify for this prestigious honor. Essendrop earned the NJCAA award for Superior Academic Achievement by having a GPA of 3.80-3.99 for four semesters of college work.

The NJCAA also announced its 2010-11 Academic Teams of the Year. Elgin Community College’s Men’s Cross Country was one of those to receive the honor. In order for a team to qualify for this award, it must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. The ECC Men’s Cross Country finished their academic year with a 3.25 GPA.
