To Be Young, Gifted, and Black Auditions

ECC Theatre will be holding auditions on Monday, August 31 and Tuesday, September 1 for its Fall production of To Be Young, Gifted, and Black: A Portrait of Lorraine Hansberry in Her Own Words, adapted by Robert Nemiroff. Fill out the form below to schedule an audition.  

Audition Information

  •  We are seeking a diverse cast including 2-3 African American women, 1-2 African American men, as well as multiple roles for actors of other ethnicities. Actors auditioning will be reading scenes from the play. Auditions are open to ages 16 and up.  

Rehearsal Information

  •  Rehearsals begin Tuesday, September 8. To Be Young, Gifted, and Black performance dates are October 30, 31, and November 5, 6, 7, and 8. Regular rehearsals are Monday through Thursday evenings, from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

  • Fast-paced, powerful, touching, and funny - To Be Young, Gifted, and Black recreates the life of acclaimed American writer Lorraine Hansberry by weaving together her letters, diaries, poems, and plays, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning A Raisin in the Sun
