ESL 017 Advanced ESL A

Prerequisite: A student must take an approved ESL test and departmental consent

Advanced ESL A is for individuals who are interested in pursuing academic college courses. This course is for individuals who have a foundation in English and who demonstrate high proficiency in expressing everyday needs in conversation and writing form. At this level, students will work to achieve writing proficiency while expanding vocabulary and building grammar skills as they write short, logical essays, formal letters, and prepare a simple resume by means of technology. They will develop critical reading skills through independent reading, guided practice, and class discussion as they read a wide variety of materials. They will learn to access and utilize information from a variety of resources and reference materials. Students will strengthen their speaking and listening skills through extensive practice in a variety of conversation contexts and classroom discussions. Course is repeatable to 24 credits.
