CIS 110 Introduction to Computers

Prerequisite: None
Recommended: CIS 098 or equivalent

This introductory course will teach students how computers work, the terminology of computers, and common hardware components and options. Students will learn to use basic desktop applications such as spreadsheets and image editors, and learn to use the Internet and how to create and publish web pages. Students will learn simple computer maintenance and upgrade procedures, networking fundamentals, and how to keep computers secure and how to detect and eliminate malicious software. Open source software solutions will be explored, and students will learn about various career options in computer science and technology.
