ECC Musical Theatre Auditions

ECC Musical Theatre announces auditions for Working: A Musical. The musical is based on the book by Studs Terkel; adapted by Nina Faso & Stephen Schwartz (with additional contributions by Gordon Greenberg); and has songs by Craig Carnelia, James Taylor, Mary Rodgers, Micki Grant, Stephen Schwartz, Susan Birkenhead, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The production is directed by Mary Hatch with musical direction by Marc Beth and choreography by Jennifer Cupani. See below for audition information. SIGN UP FOR AN AUDITION APPOINTMENT. 

Monday, November 6 from 7 to 10 p.m.
Tuesday, November 7 from 7 to 10 p.m.
*REQUIRED DANCE AUDITION: Saturday, November 11 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. 
Callbacks: Thursday, November 14 at 7 p.m.

  • -Auditions are open to students and community members ages 16 and up. We are casting an ensemble of up to 20 singer/actors. 
  • -Please prepare a 1-minute monologue and a 32-bar music selection to sing (do not choose a monologue or song from Working). Bring a copy of the music for the accompanist (no a cappella singing or taped accompaniment). Song selections for callbacks will be posted at the initial auditions. 
  • -*The dance audition on Saturday, November 11 is required for all those auditioning. Please wear comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear. 
  • -There will be rehearsals Monday through Thursday evenings the week of December 11. Following that, regular rehearsals begin Monday, January 8 and continue Monday through Thursdays. Working opens Friday, February 23 and runs weekends through Sunday, March 4. 


Based on Studs Terkel's best-selling book of interviews with American workers, Working paints a vivid portrait of workers the world often takes for granted. This updated classic features new songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda as well as favorites by Stephen Schwartz and James Taylor. Working (2012 Revised Version) is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
