Clinical Laboratory Technology

The clinical laboratory technology program of ECC prepares individuals for rewarding professional careers combining medicine and science. Clinical laboratory technicians (CLT) perform hundreds of diagnostic analyses on blood and body fluid specimens, many of which require state-of-the-art laboratory equipment, to aid physicians in the detection, prevention, monitoring, and treatment of disease. Clinical laboratory assistants (CLA) are responsible for collecting and processing specimens, preparing slides and cultures, calibrating and maintaining instruments, and performing point-of-care testing. Phlebotomy technicians (PBT), study the collection of blood specimens using venipuncture and skin puncture techniques; it's a related career which offers quick entry into the workforce.

Note: Criminal background checks and drug testing are required for all health professions programs. Students demonstrating a positive background check or positive drug test will be denied admission to health professions programs. Students demonstrating a positive background check or positive drug test while enrolled in health professions programs will be dismissed from the program.
