The emergency medical technician paramedic (EMT-P) is a professional
provider of immediate care to the sick and injured. They are
responsible for transporting patients to medical facilities for
further care and attention.

The emergency medical technology paramedic program at ECC is a joint
venture with the emergency medical services departments at
Advocate/Sherman Hospital and Presence Health/St. Joseph Hospital in
Elgin.

ECC's basic vocational specialist certificate program in EMT-P
exposes the student to a wide variety of emergency situations,
including direct patient care in one of the EMS system hospitals and
on emergency vehicles. After completion of the program, candidates
are eligible to take the EMT-P licensure exam in the state of
Illinois.

The emergency medical technology-paramedic program is approved by the
Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).
