May 17th, 2017:  Spartans Capture Region 4 Title and Will Now Host District B Championships This Weekend!  Two Wins Away From A Trip To The NJCAA Division III World Series.

The Elgin Community College Men's Baseball Team captured the Region 4 title this past weekend in Joliet.  The Spartans won Game 1 on Friday over top seeded Waubonsee by the Score of 10-0. AJ Ackerley threw 8 scoreless innings, with 11 strikeouts and 1 walk, giving up 4 hits to earn the win. In game 2, Elgin beat DuPage by the final score of 11-8. Jon Lenz moved to 6-1 on the season and Carson Balcer pitched the final 3.1 innings to earn the save. That win put the Spartans one win away from the title. DuPage bounced back to beat Joliet and got to the finals.  In the First championship game the Spartans lost the lead late in the game and DuPage held on to beat the Spartans by the score of 9-5. Elgin rebounded in the if-necessary game and beat DuPage by the final score of 18-7 to win the title. Steven de la Torriente picked up the win in relief, throwing 6 and 2/3 innings.  The Spartans offense was led by Rhett Wojovich, Tanner Smith, Steven Busby and Tournament MVP Tyler Lowe.

The Spartans will now host Delta College from Michigan in a three game series for the District B Championship and a trip to the NJCAA World Series in Greenville, Tennessee.  The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, May 20th starting at noon and 3 pm. There will be an if-necessary game on Sunday, May 21 at 12 pm if the two teams split on Saturday.  The winner advances to the 8 team NJCAA World Series from May 27th through June 1st.
