LIT 205 Introduction to Shakespeare
Credit Hours: 3
Prerequisite: Reading: Grade of C or better in RDG 091, an ACT Reading score of 18 or above, or an appropriate placement score. Writing: Grade of C or better in ENG 098, an ACT English score of 20, or an appropriate placement score.+

This course is an introduction to the works of William Shakespeare. A variety of his most interesting plays will be read and discussed, including at least one comedy, one tragedy and one historical drama. Students will also read some of Shakespeare's more notable poems. The goal is to develop an understanding and appreciation of the man generally considered the greatest writer in the history of the English language. Because Shakespeare's plays were meant to be seen, students will watch an acclaimed film production of each work. Students will also take an optional trip to the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre.
